    Small Engine 6.5 Tilting

Mike, The link you sent.. "the Hog Mud" ... was great... it gave me the solution on how to "structuraly implement / put together" the inclined pump I am designing... I saw that they included a universal joint --- it will solve 2 probles: gives me the extra 7 deg (15 vs 22) I want and...

    Small Engine 6.5 Tilting

Got this just now: All of our engines are safe to operate at no more than a 15 degree angle of operation. Mike, Briggs & Stratton Answer Center Last week, person I talked to at Briggs, just said "we do not recommend it" . I pursued and wrote to their technical support center, knowing that...

    Small Engine 6.5 Tilting

HI Mike, The universal joint might just do it. A manufacturer (Lovejoy) specified it for up to 15 degrees. Do you (or any one) have an idea how much losses (power in %) a universal joint will consume? Belts and pulleys, according to manufacturers lose about 5-7%.

    Small Engine 6.5 Tilting

Thank you for those of you who gave suggestions and their insights to the seemingly "stupid" question. They will give me a sense of the risk / return I am seeking. Also, perhaps it is not stupid: 1. Economics, is reason one. Engines are cheap, fuel not: The best engine from B&S is the Vanguard...

Guyed towers, lightning strikes and peopleÆs safety

Rat Bait Stations .... In my field to protect our main crop (say corn or rice) we set up along the periphery rat bait stations, so when they come looking for food they are stopped from infesting the main crop ! Perhaps... if you build 1 to 4 taller, more conductive towers around your main...

Tapping power from a gas engine to light an LED

Hi BRADRRS, If we have 17 engines, and view (via binoculars) that a light that is supposed to be on on say location #6 is OFF..we will know that that engine is not working and then go out and fix it. The farm is about 20 acres. It takes anout 1.25 hrs to walk the periphery during the day, about...

Tapping power from a gas engine to light an LED

HI Guys, The bicycle dynamo (runs by friction )probably will not work. I just called a mechanic at a bysycle shop..he said the bicycle dynamos were built tor maximum of 200 rpm.. an engine running at 2000-3000 rpm will smoke the dynamo. It means placing a reducing wheel to accomodate the...

Tapping power from a gas engine to light an LED

Thank you VE1BLL, I like your suggested solutions.."wire and bulbs": a.the spark plug tap - the blinking effect is wonderful (easier to see and possibly extends the bulb life).. my thought is however to tap before the spark plug capacitor (on the main magneto) rathar than after (where it...

Tapping power from a gas engine to light an LED

Thanks Waross, I will try your idea.. in fac .. the engine is coupled to the pump by a pulley/ belt configuration and I can place a smalll bicycle type generator to interface w/ the belt ... my reservation however is that a 2nd magneto is a mechanical solution, another thing that can break ...

Hi Guys, I am an Agicultural Engineer (Irrigation & Water Mngt).. and I'll highly appreciate any help/advice you can share on... I operate on a farm (in the Philippines) several gasoline (anywhere from 6 to 10HP) "pull start" (rather than battery start) engines that drive water pumps. These...
