I would like to know how to calculate pin diameters to measure the pitch in helical gears esp in girth gear and pinions.
Is there any software available to download
A helical gear box can be used with a hold back fitted in it to prevent from reverse rotation of the belt in case of power failure.
In case of helical gearbox depending on the availabilty you can reverse the hand of the gearbox.Care should be taken while fixing the hold back.
Hope this is if of...

The foll are the datas:
pinion no of teeth - 26
gear no of teeth - 190
helix angle 8 deg 42 min
normal pr. angle - 20
pinion od - 867 mm
The mill is mounted on white metal bearings. The mill cannot have free rotation while stopping like as if its mounted on antifriction bearings...

Thanks for the exp.
The gear is of T type with the following spec
outside dia - 5808 mm
pcd-5766 mm
root dia -5673mmm
dia at rim - 5520 mm ( at the sides below the root)
dia of rim at the centre ( at where slots for weight reduction start - triangular slots )-5420 mm.
This is a...
Thanks for the info. Sorry I didnt notice your previous reply. The climatic conditions we are facing is really extreme one. During summer it can touch even 45-50 deg C max and during winter its between 1-4 deg C.So its a real challenge. The conveying air near the compressor is around 150-160 deg...
thanks for the advice. but i am at the suppliers end. the compressors flow as measured near the system is around 700 cfm. The orginal designer is not accepting for dryer system. so from our end we have identified some critical points where the jamming occurs and it also coincided the lowest...
I dont understand what is meant by internal in your previous reply. Actually this is a open girth gear arrangement iam talking about & secondly what is recess action gearing. Can u explain me that
Mr.diamond jim
The gear is of short addendum type. the module is 28 and the addendum is 20mm. I am speaking about various type of gear , but surely off late i have experienced four relatively new gears hardly 3000-4000 hrs clocking. The hardness of gear is around 280 bhn that of pinion is around...

I am referring mill system. The crack are especially near the root of the gear. I have recently come across two gear where the cracks were predominantly on one side or the gear one in the drive side and the other in non drive side. The misalignment is of minor order approx 0.05 to 0.1 mm. so i...
Dear Mr.ken rad & Mr.cc flower
thanks for the advice. but i am at the suppliers end. the compressors flow as measured near the system is around 700 cfm. The orginal designer is not accepting for dryer system. so from our end we have identified some critical points where the jamming occurs and it...
There is no dryer in the system. We have found out the temperature profile along the pipe line and it some times reaches 4-10 deg.
The following are the specs
a. material temperature - 30 to 45 deg C
b. Ambient temperature - 2 min deg C to 45 max deg C ( during winter and summer resp.)...
I am experienced with a pneumatic conveying system - Dense phase system for fly ash. I have frequent jamming problems on the flyash pipe line. The system uses two 110 KW compressors - 45 psi max at 150 deg C.This is a dual tank operation and if one finishes conveying the other one starts. I have...
Based on my experience a breather in the reservoir would be better in solving the problem and also a good synthetic lubricant may be mobil would be better. Is there any ingress of water in the oil which is being used, it is better to check the same through ferrographic analysis - which would give...
From experts who deal with gear failures, I heard that the pitting usually starts from the dedendum due to negative sliding conditions. But in pitch line its more of a rolling contact that that of a sliding contact. Will you brief me why you have said that the pitting starts on pitch line for me...
Thanks for the info.
Actually i wanted to know about pittings forming exactly on the pitch line of the pinion. Is there any relation with the material hardness. I have seen pinions where only in a very few tooth the pittings have been formed and not on all the tooth.
What are the possible causes of pitting in pinions. I am service Engineer and have seen cases where there is no pitting in girth gear but its only on pinions, especially , the pitting starts on the pitch line of the pinion. Its a through hardened pinion. The gear units has spray lubrication which...
