    High speed linear actuator required

I need to be able to open and close the switch in 1/2 a 60hz cycle (8.333m/s). If the contact seperation distance is 80 mm.. this means 10 m/s average speed + Some ridiculous acceleration/deceleration....

    Hydraulic Actuator Limits

Thanks for the input. As Pnachtwey pointed out - the velocity is not the issue here. It is the Acceleration. I need to be able to open and close the switch in 1/2 a 60hz cycle (8.333m/s). If the contact seperation distance is 80 mm.. this means 10 m/s average speed. HPost - When you say they...

    High speed linear actuator required

Scotty, thanks for explaining to Mike the difference between the operators speed and the actual mechanisms speed. Mike - The critical component of most switchgear is the interrupting device. Some switchgear manufacturers just buy this part off the shelf. I need to test these different off the...

    High speed linear actuator required

I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier. The solution was staring me in the face.... I can get a high speed electric cylinder/cylcindrical linear motor... (http://www.tacrockford.com/product/machine-components/other/oswald-electric-motors/oswald-lins-cylindrical-linear-motors/) couple...

You mean quantity or are you referring to money? Haha.

    Hydraulic Actuator Limits

Hi All, Thank you for taking the time to read this post. I am inquiring to see if these sort of speeds are achievable with a hydraulic actuator. 80 mm travel. Time : 8ms AVG Speed: 10m/s . Opening force: 1100N 70 mm travel. AVG Speed: 8.75 m/s Time: 8m/s. Opening force: 1100N 60 mm travel...

    High speed linear actuator required

Thanks again for your response. I will look into the Motioneering Program today. In regards to designing the hydraulic system... I really don't want to have to go into the specifics too much myself. Ideally I would like a company with the experience in making them to specify what I need for...

    High speed linear actuator required

Thanks for the suggestion ScottyUK - for the actual device - we plan to use the trusted stored energy system. Right now while we develop the interrupting device we need to develop a mechanism to do the testing for various configurations. With the stored energy system, there is not much room for...

    High speed linear actuator required

Apologies for the confusing spec - and thank you for bearing with me in trying to suggest a solution. It will need to be used mulitiple times and is not a once off solution. 10 m/s is the opening speed for an 80mm distance. If it is a 70 mm distance, the opening speed required is : 8.75 m/s...

    High speed linear actuator required

Hi all, I'm basically after a linear actuator on steroids. Here are the required specs: 0-80mm stroke, 1040N Force, 0-10m/s speed. I have found a few products that would almost be suitable...

    help..nonlinear dynamic program for research?

Okay. Non Linear transient solvers. Have a look at these programs. You can request a free demo and trial them until you find the software you are happy with. Femap with Nx nastran; Ansys Mechanical; Altair Hyperworks are all worth checking out. Ansys, is by far the most user friendly.

    Hyperform Autotipping

Hi All, I am using the Hyperform package from the Altair HyperWorks suit. My question is that I am a bit unsure what the auto-tipping function does. Does anyone have any idea? It seems to output an angle, after 'calculating the auto tip'. From what I understand, it is the angle which the...

    help..nonlinear dynamic program for research?

Mate, I think you need to be a little bit more clear with your question. I'm not a 100% sure what you are asking for. Do you want an FEA solver that can model the non linear properties of steel, under various loading conditions? If that's what you want: Femap with Nx nastran; Ansys...

    FEA Software/Comparison

Thank you for the responses so far. I am definitely investigating Altair Hyperworks at the moment. I really like the lay out of Ansys work bench. For a beginner it really is quite a great piece of software. Only problem is that they seem to charge a lot more than their competitors. Getting a...

    FEA Software/Comparison

Hi all, This is my first post on this forum. I am located in Australia working as a mechanical engineer. Our Ansys License has expired (Technical support no longer available- Product purchased outright), and for some reason it doesn't allow the setting of 'large deflections' to be turned on...
