    Gas Nitriding Inconel 625?

They want surface hardness for abrasion resistance. Part is too complex for cold work.

    Gas Nitriding Inconel 625?

Have a customer that says they've done this before. I've never heard of nitriding 625. Maybe it works, seems like not enough iron content though. Anyone done it?

    Constant Force Circuit

I plan on using this load cell placed between the drilling motor and the drill string. It is a multi axis (axial + torque) cell. http://www.interfaceforce.com/index.php?5600-Axial-Torsion-Load-Cell&mod=product&show=189 I will likely be contacting you soon to get a quote on one of your single...

    Constant Force Circuit

Peter, we are going to give it our best effort. Keep in mind, this piece of equipment will actually be pretty big. It will have a 15'x15' base with a 22' mast. It will weigh in at around 20 tons. The main use of this machine won't be for exact simulation of drilling, it's more geared toward...

    Constant Force Circuit

"Parker bought out Miller Fluid Products many years ago. They made teflon coated cylinders. I would ask Parker. However! Your designed of a solenoid moving a bellows looks good to me since there will be no seal friction and the solenoid can retract to reduce pressure to 0. You should be able to...

    Constant Force Circuit

"It is very important to define what is meant by "constant". Constant to what tolerance? I've seen many designs that in theory keep something constant but in reality do not compensate for friction or other factors. Of course, if no one defines the requirements then any design will "work". "...

    Constant Force Circuit

Peter, do you have a recommendation for a make/model of Hydraulic Cylinder for this application? I'm looking for something with low friction just as you recommended earlier in the thread. I'm trying to eliminate the possibility of any "stick/slip".

    Constant Force Circuit

Peter, for this project the drill string will be 5 ft max. They want to use the machine for testing out new bits and testing drilling through various materials (concrete, composite plugs, etc). I will be using a 20 hp constant torque electric motor for rotation controlled by a VFD drive. The max...

    Constant Force Circuit

Peter, I am designing a drilling rig simulator. The client wants to build a machine that will drill different materials at various RPM and force (weight on bit). So, as the machine drills the weight on bit should remain constant. The weight on bit will be adjustable through setpoint on the...

    Constant Force Circuit

Thank you Peter. Yes, you are correct, I am looking for a servo valve that will be controlled by the process controller. I have found the following one manufactured by Moog...

    Constant Force Circuit

I have a project that I'm working on that requires a constant force (adjustable) to be applied by a double acting cylinder. Force only need be monitored in the extend direction (0-2500 lb f). The setup looks very similar to a log splitter, but will have a load cell placed between the cylinder...

    Wear Resistant Weld Overlay

I will look into the gas nitriding also. The bearing track is part of a larger part that doesn't need to be nitrided. Is it possible to mask off the part and leave only the track area exposed to the nitriding? There isn't a specific reason why these parts weren't nitrided to begin with. The...

    Wear Resistant Weld Overlay

We also weld Stellite 6 here but I think it would be too brittle for this application. I know there are several types of Stellite. Is there one that would suit this application better?

    Wear Resistant Weld Overlay

We have an opportunity to take on a project that requires weld overlay of a part that requires a wear resistant overlay. Basically, the part (4130) has a rectangular track in which a roller bearing rides back and forth (we will overlay the track). I've done a little research, and noticed that...

    Pinholes in Inconel 625 Cladding

We've encountered an alarming rate of pinholes in our clad work lately. Trying to nail down the problem. Argon tested good and no leaks. We are welding on 4130 under a WPS that we've used for many years. I'm beginning to think the defects may be caused by the consumable. We are using Arcos brand...

    API R95 Steel

Does anyone have a spec for this material? I have a customer that wants to have end caps welded on the R95 pipe. I am not familiar with this material. Thanks!

    Hydraulic Circuit help

Yes, 13 gallons is what I have calculated the cylinders will displace while they retract during the clamping operation. They are big 8" bore cylinders. I will take your advice and consult with a vendor for the appropriate sized accumulator in order to have little change in pressure.

    Hydraulic Circuit help

Littleinch, Thank you for the ideas. The total gallons consumed during this process (2 cylinders) will be 13 gallons. How big of an accumulator do you think I would need to notice little pressure difference? To answer your question, there is no current process in place. This is a one-off...

    Hydraulic Circuit help

I am not sure how to post a picture here. But to make this more simple, I will drive the cylinder forward (extend) until it clamps the workpiece. Then I want to filp a switch which activates a solenoid valve which brings a relief valve into play. The relief valve would be in parallel with the...

    Hydraulic Circuit help

I have a situation where i need to extend a large bore hydraulic rod and act as a clamp against a workpiece. But the workpiece will begin to move during the process and I need the hyd rod to follow with it (retract) and maintain a set, adjustable amount of pressure. A simple pressure relieving...
