Supplementary reinforcement to cast-in anchors within a RC beam

Hello all, I'm looking for clarification on whether or not I need supplementary reinforcement within a 900x1000mm beam to which a 30mm cast-in shear plate with 30 welded anchor studs (5 rows of 6) is fixed. The studs are 30mm in diameter. There is a shear force of 1400kN acting on the shear...

    Basic question - Alluminium beams

Many thanks for the replies all, Just wanted to clear some things up that I should have mentioned in the initial post. Attachments seems to be working for me now so I've now uploaded the manufactures sheet for the beam in question. To address rb1957's comment, this is not a school question...

    Basic question - Alluminium beams

Good evening I cannot for the life of me remember how one could calculate shear capacity of an alluminium beam (used for formwork/falsework applications) and it's embarressing. Given the following information, can someone put me out of my misery? Cross sectional area, = 3000 mm2 E = 69000 MPa...

Question regarding fixity - Slab to shear wall connection

Hi all, As a useful excersize for my novice self, I have modelled a 3rd floor 300thk RC slab (that has already been built) using FEM, so that I can add loads in certain places to see the behaviour of the slab and supports... In my FE model (using Autodesk Robot), I have added linear pinned...

Simple method for analysing point loads on a two-way slab?

Thank you for this great advice. Yes, I just wanted to ask the question of how one would go about analysing slabs with an irregular column layout so I didn't want to go too much into detail. In regards to the 13m length of beam - Do you mean that the number is not correct or the approach...

Simple method for analysing point loads on a two-way slab?

jdonville, BAretired, retired13, WARose thank you for your responses. Although I'm a student, this is actually for work. I included that part in the post to indicate my level of experience. Checking for flexure, shear and punching shear is exactly what I've done but I'm uncertain if this is...

Simple method for analysing point loads on a two-way slab?

Hi all, I am a masters student in structural engineering & temporary works so any help, tips & pointers on how to go about the following would be very much appreciated. I need to check the effect of compression/tension loads on a 300thk flat two way slab due to having to install a cantilever...

Fully fixed 3D frame + Time history load (El Centro) =0.006m Absolute displacement at ground joint??

Thanks for your reply. I have uploaded the file to 2shared: http://www.2shared.com/file/oWdQpSAd/1_STORY_FIXED__PRE_PLAY_.html The relative displacements, deemed just "Displacements" in the table look fine, its just the absolute displacements which is a cause for concern. thanks again

Fully fixed 3D frame + Time history load (El Centro) =0.006m Absolute displacement at ground joint??

Johnbridge231, thanks for the response. Yes the structure is fully restrained, although I'll mention the way it was restrained (via Define->Joint restraints) in case there is some other way I don't know about (I'm still quite new to the programme). Thanks

Fully fixed 3D frame + Time history load (El Centro) =0.006m Absolute displacement at ground joint??

^^ I should say, the problem of not getting 0 applies to all 4 of the base joints and not just joint 1.

Fully fixed 3D frame + Time history load (El Centro) =0.006m Absolute displacement at ground joint??

I am not getting 0 as my absolute displacement for joint 1 in my simple 1-storey 3D frame structure when I apply an earthquake load, rather I am getting 60mm in the U1 direction (the rest are 0). The frame is fully restrained. I am new to SAP2000, can somebody please explain what I am doing...

    Animation button has gone

Hello After clicking "Run Analysis" my structure seems to automatically display MODAL deformed shape and the animation button is no longer there. Does anybody know how to get it back? thanks

Can't find 'Analysis Cases' under 'Define' menu (SAP2000 edition 15)

Hello guys. I'm new to this forum, it looks amazing. I am stuck on step 74 in this SAP2000 tutorial: http://www.comp-engineering.com/downloads/manuals/SAP2000/English/AtoZExampleProblems/Problem_O.pdf However, I can't seem to find "Analysis cases" because I'm assuming that these tutorials were...
