CAE plated structure, easy way to connect shells.

I forgot about that, of course, I can use that to generate ties.

CAE plated structure, easy way to connect shells.

A plated structure, like a ship hull, I am trying to plan my model to make things easier later on and could do with some tips. If I make lots of parts to represent each plate - which I think? is necessary as the sections change even if the dims are the same for various hull plates stringers etc...

Crane rails to ASTM A759 - Testing requirements

I have been asked to approve a materials cert for crane rails that states ASTM A759-10 high strength rails. The cert supplied only lists chemistry and hardness. As detailed in thread507-437086, whilst ASTM A759 only lists hardness, it does refer to ASTM-A1, which in turn refers to A29/A29M which...

Axial only constraint to simulate a thread in a pressurized pipe.

So I am not an abaqus expert, I have asked our local support but they have not been that great. As a more old school guy who has been running simulations since the 90's (I know that doesn't make me that old school as there are a good few users on here who started way before me..), I am always...

Installing pipe supports onto a pressure vessel?

Apologies, I missed this - the description by Geoff13 is correct . We have gone back to the vessel manufacturer who were mildly irritated that this had happened, they have re-analyzed the vessel with the pipe support and it no longer meets our spec. So they have requested that we either remove...

Installing pipe supports onto a pressure vessel?

Yeah the vessel has been designed and certified, and then the piping designer has added the support later. Its still in the design phase but he is adamant it is standard practice. I am only an observer but there is some consternation amongst the older pipers here.

Installing pipe supports onto a pressure vessel?

20" diameter pipe, one of the supports has been specced by the piping designer as welded to the pressure vessel below (no actual relationship between the pipe and the pressure vessel) . This strikes me as bit odd, but perhaps there is a good reason. Has anyone ever come across this before?

WB 19.2 Bolt Tool - Gives working load as max, min and total. What does the total column mean?

Yeah first step is pretension, but as per the graph above that does not seem to ramp up until the 2nd step anyway, which is when I started applying my external load to open the flange. This is 19.2, in older versions there is not the Total column.

WB 19.2 Bolt Tool - Gives working load as max, min and total. What does the total column mean?

Apologies - edited, its a 4 degree slice of a flange with frictionless supports at the symmetry slice faces. I can not share the images as work have a strict nothing leaves the building policy.

WB 19.2 Bolt Tool - Gives working load as max, min and total. What does the total column mean?

Just one. Its a 2degree slice of the flange, and sliced down the middle of the bolt, with frictionless (symmetry) - however it would be 90 bolts. I considered that perhaps it was multiplying up on my behalf, but is 320 times bigger.

WB 19.2 Bolt Tool - Gives working load as max, min and total. What does the total column mean?

This is new and I cannot find anything in the help or documentation. Using the bolt tool - we have applied a preload to the bolt, (its 3d, don't ask). So then we apply in steps a load to separate the flange - and we get the working load results. So far so good, but I have no idea what the total...

The Logan book recommended above is excellent.

Mix plane182 with thickness option and plane182 axisymmetric elements.

I have not used Ansys for a while I am more of an Abaqus guy. However a supplier has provided us with a report of an analysis of their product. The analyst has reported that axisymmetric plane182 elements, with some components as non-axisymmetric plane182 with thickness option were used. I am...

Inline extractor fan placement in duct run.

To be honest I have difficulty understanding the meaning of the fan curve test. Based on the curve, with airflow being the independent variable on the graph, I assume they control the airflow and that affects the pressure created at some opening? So this airflow variable represents varying...

Inline extractor fan placement in duct run.

Fan curve is here. It is a two speed fan, so the two lines are for the high speed and low speed. From here. https://www.airflow.com/AIR1/AIR1-SHOP2/PDF/Commercial%20fans%20pdfs/Aventa%20In-line.pdf

Inline extractor fan placement in duct run.

Thanks GT-EGR - luckily all of those coincide with the end of the run as Compositepro suggested so serendipity rules here. Pretty rare..

    That is a good point.

Inline extractor fan placement in duct run.

I wonder where is the best place to locate an inline fan in a kitchen extractor design? Its 5m run of 150mm dia round duct. Layout is like this: From kitchen hood 400mm straight through wall. 90 degree bend to vertical 2.5m length vertical 90 degree bend to horizontal 2m run to outlet. My...

Mr Jones you are a very nice and generous man, thanks for the posts.

Understanding CO2 in NACE MR0175 and other corrosion standards.

Thanks for this. So there is no standard that defines CO2 maximum concentrations for corrosion reduction?
