    Coursework and Career Advice

Greetings Eng-Tips community, At the end of August, I will be beginning graduate school. I will be attending two classes a semester, two nights a week, while still maintaining my current engineering job. I have been out of school for almost four years now. I got my undergrad in Civil and...

    No Buckling

Greetings, I have a question regarding column buckling. I have a tower with four posts that are tied together with horizontal members. When I put an excessively large, non-eccentric, axial load on the posts, the columns do not buckle. It seems that the columns just keep compressing. Even...

preventing pipe bow on fishmouth weld

Can you provide a sketch of what you are talking about? To prevent or fix bowing, we always either build negative camber into the jig or use a torch to heat certain areas after welding.

Temporary support of a load bearing column

I second bridgebuster. We use system scaffold for shoring jobs. Screw jack on the bottom of tubular columns. You can essentially make this as tall as you want, provide it is braced properly.

    Preventing "fudging" dimensions

    Is this weld possible???

Why not avoid welding by machining threaded holes into the manifold for the barbs to screw into? Use a thread sealer and be done with it.

    Custom Cross Sections

I've managed to enter and save my custom cross sections, however the sectionDB manager won't save the plastic modulus. It keeps reverting to zero. Any thoughts on how to stop this?

    Custom Cross Sections

Hey guys, I was wondering how to enter and save custom cross sections in Staad V8i. I don't have the Section Wizard but if that is the only way to save custom cross sections I will have to make the investment. None of the sections we use are standard. Thanks, -Tony
