Screw boss thread stripped during screwing operation

Hi Pud, No, we buy the parts from the moulders. Could this result in a reduction of the strength or hardness of the material though? I'm not very clued up on plastics moulding so apologies if it's a bit of a silly question. Thanks, David

Screw boss thread stripped during screwing operation

Hi Mike, Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. Your first, third and fourth thoughts have already been disproved through our investigation so far - though the reply is very appreciated and I'll make a note of these factors for future investigations :). Your second thought is very intriguing...

Screw boss thread stripped during screwing operation

Hi All, I have an issue with a screw mounting hole in a polycarbonate moulding. The screw is screwed into the hole to a set torque. The screw softens the plastic as it turns forming the thread. The problem is that the thread is being completely stripped and separated from the moulding during...

    Materials for Hydrogen Service

Hi, New to this portion of the forum so I hope I'm in the right place. I am manufacturing a pipe spool for hydrogen service. I'd like to make it out of some form of carbon steel (plate or pipe, doesn't matter which at the moment). Is there a document or index available which can help me select...

    B31.3 Latest Edition

Hi, Pretty sure I already know the answer to this question but asking it cannot do any harm anyway. We are to manufacture a small pipe spool and it is to be done in accordance with ASME B31.3. Here's my problem, I've dug said standard out of our archives and found it is the 1996 version. Is...

    DEP / Shell Piping Classes

Hi All, I've had a piping class quoted to me. "Piping Class 11011". A quick google search suggests its a DEP / Shell standard piping class but I can't find anything beyond that. Basically all I need to know is the ANSI line rating for this particular piping class. Not having the necessary...

    Consumable Inserts ANSI B31.3

Thanks both, the helps appreciated. FYI Little Inch it is intended for use in construction of a 'multistage restriction orifice assembly' and yes the small 'lip' is deliberate. Basically its a number of restriction orifice plates mounted in series to reduce pressure in very high pressure lines...

    Consumable Inserts ANSI B31.3

Here's a quick pencil sketch showing the plate and pipe arrangement. Its for a multistage assembly so mounting between flanges is not an option unfortunately . BR Daihttp://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=b0f2d9ea-5bd7-4d70-b29d-38d7dd74d628&file=ET-22052013125048.pdf

    Consumable Inserts ANSI B31.3

Hi All, I am attempting to weld an orifice plate between 2 sections of pipe. Under section 328.2 of ANSI B31.3 it states that a weld procedure qualified without the use of a backing ring is also qualified with the use of a backing ring with single welded butt joints. Here's my question. Can I...
