I have just checked with my default NX8.5 installation and the datum feature symbol is square.
Maybe you have changed something in your drawing template.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=3e8fe136-7036-447d-95f5-da2afe035c09&file=datum_feature_symbol.zip
Do you mean Model Views (PMI menu), when you are talking about 3D view? And by 2D view, do you mean drawings?
If so, you have to create your own PMI views in the model first.
When in drawing, you can select your own PMI views from Drawing View Wizard Options.
Do you want to remove one surface from a solid body and so create a sheet body from a solid?
1. If so, select Delete Face command.
2. In Delete Face dialog box, open the Settings group.
3. Uncheck the Heal option.
4. now select a face on a solid body and click OK
The face is removed from a...
Maybe you turned odd the Relationship Colors by mistake.
Check Inspect tab in sketch environment. In the Evaluate group, you will see Relationship Colors command. If it is turned on, then it has orange background.
If this is not helping you, can you upload some files with sketches, that cause...
For all the models (not just sheet metal), do the following:
1. when clicking on the New Study command, select the Study Type and Mesh Type. Don't click OK yet.
2. in this dialog box, you also have Options button. Click on it.
3. under Results options, deselect Generate only Surface results...
I have managed to display surfaces instead of contours only just in the sheet metal parts.
1. when starting the new study, I select Surface instead of Tetrahedral in Mesh Type menu
2. then I define everything for the simulation (select the mid-surface, define the loads and contraints)
3. after...
According to help documentation, features can be added to templates in PTS.
Use the Model Explorer browser to display the objects available to use for the active template. Drag an object from the tree to the template workbench to add it to the template dialog box. Such objects include:

Which version do you use?
In NX9 you can find the hole callout settings in customer defautls:
1. file/utilities/customer defaults
2. drafting/general...then click on Standard tab and select the standard. Click on Customize standard
3. under drafting standards, the last one is Hole Callout. There...
It was the same in ST6. And according to help documentation, I would suggest that this is intentionally:
As a component is moved, relationships that would normally prohibit movement with a fixed offset in a given direction behave as if they are floating offsets. The offset value is changed...
Yes, I ponted the variable directly to the startup directory and not to its parent.
And a question for Toost.
You've mentioned, that in Windows control panel, you are only pointing to the ugii_env_nx9.dat. And that you define UGII_SITE_DIR in this file.
Why not define the UGII_SITE_DIR variable...
OK, I have read your linked post again and do additional tests on my PCs.
Everything can be controlled nice and easy with read-only rights and domain settings for the user. So, no problem here anymore.
Thanks again for your quick reply and for solving the problem.
Excellent! That was the problem. I also point my variable to the startup directory and not to its parent directory.
Thanks for this one!!!
And one more thing.
How can I set customer defautls and levels for the user so, that they only see the user level? If they have site avaialble, then they...
I am reading about Customer Defautls and site/group/user levels in NX Help. I would like to lock some Customer Defautls (like modeling/general/tolerancing scales). But I simply don't understand, how to set those levels and then lock the defaults. Is there a step by step or Customer Defaults for...
And if you look at Settings group in Copy to 3D command, you will see, that output can be also sketches and solid body. But, it will work only for simple geometry like the one, I have attached. http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=e54b0548-d7b1-43b6-9574-4e1e3bbbd4d8&file=copy_to_3D.7z
If you need the centerline constructed like a spline for some other modeling reasons, then you can do this:
1. open http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=366408 and then use last journal on this site. This journal will create a spline as the centerline of the selected face. It will also...

I have written this sometime ago. It explains, how to define ptb files, etc. Maybe this will help you with your problem.
First you have to define your attributes in every part file. It would be good, if you define File Properties/Attributes in part template file, so that the attribute have the same name in each new part file.
In drawung, when you place the default parts list, you have to insert new columns. For...
