    Sandcast 356 Aluminum Porosity

All, Again thanks for the replies. Today we will test the bodies with the pressure test and I will relay the results. These particular valves are weight loaded designed to relieve vapor pressure on above ground storage tanks; the particular setting for these units will be 2.0 Oz/in2 (3.4" WC)...

    Sandcast 356 Aluminum Porosity

All, Thank you for the responses. I'm currently reviewing ASTM B26 and will be using that with ASTM-155 and E2422. B26 identifies "Discontinuity Level" with Grade A through D specifications to be used with the reference radiographs. I'll keep looking into this and post further findings.

    Sandcast 356 Aluminum Porosity

All, Good day and I hope all is well. I work for a small company who fix and repair low pressure relief devices on above ground storage tanks. We recently procured valves from an OEM and upon recite observed small pinholes on some of the machined surfaces on the units. Managements first...

    Fledgling Eng. Department

Thank you for the responses. Kenat: Thanks for posting the forum guidelines. This post was made from my own volition in efforts to do things the way in perceive to be the right way. Fledgling Eng. Department

All, Good day, I hope all is well. I come asking for insight and advice in regards to building a fledgling engineering department. As a little back ground, I have been working for the company for 4 years and have managed to end up in a supervisory role. I started by doing technical...

    2" sensing line placement

Don, thank you for the reply. The 10" was a weight loaded unit, set at 1.0 Oz pressure and 0.5 Oz vacuum. Generally for the scope of work we deal with, sensing line will connect to Varec 180/181 (weight loaded as well) or S&J Oil regulators, set at between 0.8" WC and 0.2" WC. Other times its a...

    MAWP of API 12A tanks/ IFR ?

Thanks for the prompt reply! Have you seen any case in which a shell has been constructed with out circulation vents? If so, the shell would either be protected by Emergency Vents and/or frangible roof joints I presume? Thanks again, Avg.

    MAWP of API 12A tanks/ IFR ?

Good morning all, I hope all is well. I have been tasked to investigate the MAWP of 70,000BBL tanks built to API 12A (old riveted tanks, IFR with shell). The tank has low pressure relief devices on the floating roof set at minimum for the pressure (0.5 Oz) and vacuum (O.5 Oz) to protect the seal...

    2" sensing line placement

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this, so please direct as needed. I'm curious about the sensing line placement in regards to a low pressure pressure relief valve. I was on a job site today while we were servicing equipment and noticed the 2" sensing line plumbed into a...

    Varec Flow Curve Question

"Since there's no independent or standard verification of those curves, and since there are unexplainable anomolies when comparing devices, one can't trust the curves to be highly accurate. But, there's also no evidence that your tank will fail due to the use of those imperfect curves. I think...

    Varec Flow Curve Question

Thanks for the prompt response. Having said that, it only leads to more questions I guess. For further information, I presume I'd have to call each manufacture to ask for their testing procedures if my curiosity is so inclined. And more to the point, if you were tasked with sizing the equipment...

    Varec Flow Curve Question

Good afternoon. First off, great site and forums! I'll get right to it. I work for a company who services low pressure relief devices (Groth, Varec, Enardo, etc). I'm fairly new, and for my own curiosity I've been reading the manufacture's literature on different models, trims, applications...
