    Conductor sizing for multiple VFD's

I was wondering if someone could please tell me how to calculate conductor sizes for 2, 3-phase, 30- Hp, 460V VFD's, controlling 2, 30-Hp, 3 phase, motors? Would it be done the same way you calculate multiple motors (125% FLC of the largest motor and add the other FLC's)?

Sizing backup generators for VFD driven motors

Thanks davidbeach. In regards to the motor controls, unfortunately there are no other controls aside from the VFD. Also, I had an electrician tell me that I would need a size 4 AWG Cu wire to wire the 2 wells, not sure if this is correct though.

Sizing backup generators for VFD driven motors

    Hello, I have 2 water wells located approximately 300 feet apart. One well has a 30 Hp, 460 V, 3-phase motor controlled by a 40 Hp, 460 V, 3-phase VFD and the other well has a 20 Hp, 460 V, 3-phase motor, controlled by a 30 Hp, 460 V, 3-phase VFD. I am thinking of buying a backup generator for...

Submarine cables to use for transmission

I'd like to know what the best, most reliable cables would be feasible for this type of project. I agree about the 13.2 kV lines, just wanted to put a little information about what nominal voltage is used on the main island. The smaller island is currently being supplied by 2- 100 kW gensets...

Submarine cables to use for transmission

Here is some information: An island that utilizes 13.2 kV lines would like to lay submersible cable to transmit power to an island that is approximately 20km away. The depth of the water is between 150-200 meters deep. What is the best submersible cable for this scenario?

    High Voltage grounding for substations

7anoter4, Option C. Also the HV cables are for 34.5 kV and not 13.2 kV. Thanks!

    High Voltage grounding for substations

Can anyone give me some tips about grounding high voltage cables for substations? There is an existing substation and ground, but it will undergo construction because the building is dilapidated. I'd just like some input on how to ground high voltage cables ( 13.2 kV). Thanks

    IDMT Relay Protection Settings

Thanks Dave! dpc- I am currently compiling all the data, like system impedance, etc. I have a single line diagram, but dont think I can post it. I just didnt understand the relay settings, which Dave eloquently provided.

    IDMT Relay Protection Settings

Hello, I am an engineering student interning at a Utility company and would like some help understanding relay characteristics for protection settings. I was wondering if someone could explain what all this means and if the feeder relay setting is correct. Any assistance is greatly appreciated...

Fuse cut-outs on transmission lines tripping the feeder

JGHRIST, We are currently working on that as well as collecting data from the feeder relays and fuse ratings on the lines. We use fuse link type T fuses on our overhead lines as well as some expulsion type and current limiting fuses for some of our LVS switches. Thanks!

Fuse cut-outs on transmission lines tripping the feeder

Hello everyone, Thanks for your replies. Anyhow here is a little more info: We use a nominal voltage of 13.2 kV. When the feeder tripped, our linemen traced the line to see what caused it to tripped and they found a burnt fuse and a dead bird on the ground. So, they assumed the bird caused...

Fuse cut-outs on transmission lines tripping the feeder

Thanks Bill for the response. Do you have any suggestions on how to rectify the problem?

Fuse cut-outs on transmission lines tripping the feeder

Hello everyone! I am trying to figure out why a burnt fuse cut-out on our transmission lines tripped the feeder. There are other fuses along the line and an over current relay at the feeder. A transient fault caused the fuse to burn out which caused a short that tripped the whole feeder. What...
