Hello
I am reviewing an old PV Elite output and noticed the following, please find my questions in red font:
Material: SA-516 Gr 60 Normalized
Allowable Stress, Ambient = 118 MPa <--- at ambient
Allowable Stress, Operating = 109.1 MPa <--- at design temperature
Allowable Stress, Hydrotest =...
Hello,
I would like to ask regarding RT requirement as per UW-1. I've read ASME PTB-4 and as per its logic diagram, I need to determine its service and thickness to establish its RT level (full, spot, etc.) and subsequently its joint efficiency (E).
UW-11(a) and (3): Is the service lethal? If...
Hello all,
Recently I have modified a splice connection between 2 structural members of a supported cone roof, changed it to weld connection. However, what kind of NDT is compulsory on this weld? Section 8.1.1 do not say anything regarding weld of structural members;

I would like to ask about storage tank fabrication sequence, I do not find anything regarding to this in API 650. A fabricator plans to do blasting + primer on all plates prior to rolling, then transport them plates to site and finish all the welding + final coat. Is this a good practice...
Hello,
A client of mine has their own regulation that imposed Manufacturer to use 1.3 x Maximum Allowable Pressure (MAP), however they are now requested to use 1.3 x Maximum Allowable Working Pressure. They claim it will reduce the cost, but I failed to understand why. Thickness is determined...
Hello, galvanic corrosion usually occurs when 2 different metals in contact, however does it also occurs over same materials with different ASTM code?
For example: saddle and pressure vessel shell connection;
Shell is using SA-516 Gr 70 but saddle is using SA 36.
Thanks!
Hello eng-tips!
May I ask what is the correct/normal practice in selecting PSV/PRV? All I know from API 520 Part 1 is:
1. PSV is for gas service,
2. PRV is for liquid service.
3. Non-flowing pilot PRV is recommended if there is a possibility of hydrate formation/icing in the outlet.
I am...
Hello Eng-tips!
Recently our client requested to design the offshore pig receiver to be dual purpose (can both receive and launch). Is this doable? The receiver shall have some slop to assist in pigging, I'd assume is difficult to load a pig in there. We need larger flowrate of gas to move it...
