    Section of a Section

"The drawing must give only one interpritation." Yeah there are rules according to ANSI, but these are guidelines. If you have to create a section of a section to give the manufacturer a better idea, then I say go for it. Regards, Namdac

    What to do...

Welcome to the club, my friend. I was recently in the same boat, under appreciated for the efforts put forth. I was working at a "company" for ten years. I worked for a couple of Engineers that could not think inside the box let alone outside of the box. I created design procedures so new...

    Physics, Dynamics simulation

What CAD platform are you using? Most of todays cad software does simulations in 3-D. You might get by with a third party ad-on, but check to be sure you do not have the ability already. Yet, are not aware of it's existance within the program structure. Regards, Namdac

    Compaction

I agree with all but, one question looms over my head why would the utilities be in any danger of being disturbed. Where I live utilities are at a minimum of 36" below the surface. If they are not then I feel that the compaction requirements are secondary to your problem. Regards, Namdac

    Incomplete Topo Survey?

When a firm is hired to perform topographic surveys, usually all items required are spelled out in the contract. However if this is an "In House" production, your firm needs to work on it's communication skills. When a crew shoots in a very limited number of shots, the interpelation between them...

    Concrete Form/Slab Floor Layout

Since I have had to help build a couple of Embassy Suite Hotels I will give you a small piece of advice. When building Multi-level structures it is important to have a base layout. For example: When I set a hotel footprint I use the structure columns as my datums. I would establish the grid so...

    Practice of Engineering

Here we are stuck in the crack. We all work together and I believe that people need to quit reading "into" things. We all have a common goal in what we do as a "Team" if the designer creates a "wigget" and these are construction plans that are to be used for constrction purposes, then the...

    3d surface modeling

If you have any other question feel free to ask. I have also created some procedures that would be benificial if you are just starting in 3D. Regards, Namdac

    3d surface modeling

First, create a new dgn with a 3d seed file. Next, reference the 2d file to the 3d file. Copy the contours into the 3d file. Change the elements to thier corresponding elevation. Make sure that your elements are polylines. Go to Tools>Surface Modeling>Create Surfaces. Here you can take and...

Need to Survey Boundaries within Wood

Go down to your local survey shop and rent a instrument and traverse the boundary ye olde fashion way. Either that or get a chain saw. "Sometimes technology gets in our way and we fail to see the solution under our nose." Regards, Namdac

    PDMS or Microstation

I currently work for a D.O.T. (Department of Transportation) and we use Microstation. Microstation has many benefits to it. There is a support community that is really great. All the D.O.T. or at least most of them have cell libraries and other design details already drawn. Some even have EXE...

    GEOPAK TO RDS

If you are using Geopak, then you can use cogo to do a best fit under the tools menu. See what that does. Our department does not use spirals anymore. We use normal curves and a program called GPK Tangent. Regards, Namdac
