    Better Resolution of Time

Dear friends, I am doing a basic impact problem in which a deformable ball (made of Aluminum) is being dropped onto a rigid flat plate from a height under the influence of gravity. My primary aim is to resolve the impact time to the nearest milli-second. My approach to this is by plotting the...

    Excessive Deformation!

I tried to finely mesh the "hex-can" part so that there would be more than one element through the thickness. No other mesh element is compatible with the "hex-can" part, and hence I could only use tetrahedral elements. I have, therefore tried to modify certain properties of the tetrahedral...

    Excessive Deformation!

Friends, I am doing a simulation in which a cylindrical rod is being eccentrically dropped into a cylindrical hole with varying diameters. I have defined both the bodies as deformable bodies and also have defined contact wherever necessary. I am getting an error for "15 excessive deformed...

Modeling in-elastic collision in ABAQUS FEA

Rob, Thank you so much for your timely reply and help. I had initially done the analysis for the quarter sphere dropping into the plate (Impact analysis) and didn't modify the Step accordingly,it was careless of me. I am also enclosing the CAE file for future reference. Thanks...

Modeling in-elastic collision in ABAQUS FEA

Any insight into the problem is extremely appreciable! Thanks in advance!

    Abaqus error

Dear dhobleashish, You must have pressed the "Kill" button in the Job Monitor. The SIGTERM is usually a generic signal for program termination, and as suggested it was invoked by external request, aka externally killing the process. Hope it helps you out. Regards

Modeling in-elastic collision in ABAQUS FEA

Dear Rob, I was able to do the simulation, but the results are not coinciding with the theoretical values. I am also finding significant interference among the meshes and tried making the slave surface to be more finely meshed, following an advice from PolymerFEA forum. I am attaching my CAE...

Modeling in-elastic collision in ABAQUS FEA

Dear Rob, Thanks a lot for your timely advice! These are very resourceful links and have helped me a lot to finish the simulation! :) Regards, Murali

Modeling in-elastic collision in ABAQUS FEA

***** UPDATE ******** I have tried my hand in the problem the following way. >Created two bodies, both analytically rigid (one solid sphere and a flat plate). >Provided information regarding materials and created surfaces and assigned surfaces to relevant bodies. >Then imported the bodies into...

Modeling in-elastic collision in ABAQUS FEA

Hello! I am trying to model an inelastic collision of a ball into a rigid flat surface. I am trying to model the most basic of examples to obtain the coefficient of restitution. I am also neglecting the force due to gravity on the ball. For my initial analysis I am planning to model a normal...
