XR250,
I have the same observation over the past. I never see more than one joint, and joined/spliced studs used not for entire building. may be 10-20% studs for entire building !
Hi folks,
It gave me uncomfortable feeling when we observed end-joined studs is used for entire framing for a 2 story residential building. I have seen using 20-30% of the studs but not 100%.
Moreover most of the cases the studs has 3 to 5 joints for only 12 ft height! I understand per IRC...
I don't have any problem what I observe at the field but i can't just mention in my letter that ......"it's done according to NEC 20xx" because I have no expertise on NEC. Thank you all for your valuable inputs.
Now a days, most of the city asking a letter after re-bar inspection is done by Engineer. It's not that difficult to issue a letter based on what we observed.
But it makes difficult when city wants Structural engineer add a line " Concrete earth electrode is provided as per NEC 20xx" in the...
As a matter of fact, the law suit is not for the noncompliance of the work. Its for , not finishing the project or not making progress on time. As per our knowledge, all the framing were done according to contract documents. Inspections were done by EOR (their firm) and it all passed by the...
Jarod,
Thank you for your prompt input. As a matter of fact we, city inspector and owner contacted the EOR individually. EOR were initially cooperative but something went wrong when they found about law suit.
EOR acknowledged that they have done the inspection, city also knows about it. But...
Dear All,

However owner paid the money directly to the...
Hi All,

No one answers their phone. I filed up online order form, had couple of...
Hi,
Under what consideration (IBC 2308.9.5-6 header) span reduces, when it's two floors. In my understanding floor loads ( gravity) are not accumulative on header beams but trimmer and king studs ( when nailed together).
Did they consider additional load from upper floor designing header ...
Hi,
I am designing a slab on ground post-tension slab for an apartment building. Size of the pad 38'x175'. Building pad contains about 8 apartments. Each apartment drops about 8", which makes 4'-8" drop at one end of the pad. What's the best approach I should take to design and economically...

Dear all,
AISC 9th edition (table D3.1) used to have a value for U =0.75, when all shape connects by 2 bolts in line. In 14th edition I don't see any value for that ( or I am missing something).
My question is, when a members connects by 2 bolts in line, what would be the value for "U". Or...
Hi Folks:
Whats the best way to transfer the shear, when shear wall running parallel to wall?
1. extending wall ( build pony wall) all way up to floor/roof?
2. provide floor truss on top of wall?
3. Rim joist on top of wall?
If we use truss, sheathing is not necessary to bring all way up...
