    GD&T for plate segment

mkcski, Thanks for your comments, I did actually later add a reference for the arc radius through the 3 holes though I didn't add inner and outer arc radii, I figure someone should be able to ±25mm from the hole arc. The ends of the plate are 100° apart, controlled by all round profile...

    GD&T for plate segment

    Thanks drawoh! I'll do that.

    GD&T for plate segment

Hi, I'm interested to know how others would dimension a plate segment, a segment of 100° in this case, in which the only important features are three mounting holes. The three holes mount to a duct flange to retain a flexible seal between the plate segment and the duct flange. The entire outside...

    Centerlines needed or not?

@jgKRI - hi, datums B and C are on the faces of the part but datum A is established the centre plane of the 3" dimension, whether that dimension is actually 3.08" or 2.920" does not matter, datum A plane is at the center of that actual dimension hence the visual aspect of my comment above. I do...

    Centerlines needed or not?

@jgKRI - I don't want to use an edge datum in order to keep the slots central to the width. The width tolerance is +/-.08" and with the positional tolerance on the slot we want to make sure it looks tidy. We would use edge datums if the features were not symmetrical but we've had parts made that...

    Centerlines needed or not?

@CheckerHater, with regard to a dimension from the centerline - what about the leg of the angle with only one slot in it? That slot is centred on the plane established by datum A so the dimension, if there was one, would be zero which is a no-no. The center of that slot has to be 'implied /...

    Centerlines needed or not?

Hi, I would like to know if there is any definitive method for whether or not centerlines should be shown when using features of size. The attached file shows a simple angle bracket with two slots in one leg, positioned using implied symmetry to datum A (the length of the bracket) and one slot...

    Dimensioning of an elliptical plate...

Attached is a corrected sketch, I failed to identify the internal ellipse as a datum originallyhttp://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=e7ad87e6-df7a-4bb0-8c8f-7c048b453f97&file=18888_DATUM_ELLIPSE.pdf

    Dimensioning of an elliptical plate...

Hi, I have a 'simple' plate, elliptical in form internally and externally. Around the perimeter is a group of 16 holes and a group of 4 smaller holes. Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts about how to dimension it? Attached are a couple of thoughts, I think I prefer making the 16 holes a...
