    variable load along a curve

Well, there is this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdoQKZuqDms which I used as a starting point, but the variable loading is equation based, not function based. The first steps are identical I guess, but the function part is not :-(

    variable load along a curve

Hello team Femap I am working on a hydrofoil, I have the outputs from the hydrodynamic study that give me a distribution of load as N/mm along the span of the foil. Therefore I am trying to apply this force/length along a curve on the surface of the foil. First I created a function crudely...

linear buckling gives a fatal error LNNRIGL

hello all quick update after the holidays: - Model-Load-Expand didn't work on Femap 10.3 - I managed to try the buckling analysis on a later version of Femap, and it worked, so problem solved here, thanks. Now another question related to my model: the "initial tension" option in the rod...

linear buckling gives a fatal error LNNRIGL

I'm sorry, but what do you mean by expand ?

linear buckling gives a fatal error LNNRIGL

hi Thomas I use this link for unit consistency: https://www.dynasupport.com/howtos/general/consistent-units and it seems g or ton depends on the time unit s or ms. but that shouldn't be the a problem when there is no acceleration involved, right ? you are right, I am not familiar with the femap...

linear buckling gives a fatal error LNNRIGL

thanks for taking the time to have a look. this is weird, I am running on an old version of Femap 10.3, could that be a reason ? but I see the Eigenvalues are low, I would be expecting values around 2.5-3.0 it also looks like the rotation is released at the root of the spreaders, weird...

linear buckling gives a fatal error LNNRIGL

Hello fellow Femap users I am trying to model a sailboat rig using a mix of 1D elements - bars for the shrouds, and they have rotational degrees of freedom released as in real life + offsets to simulate the real positions on the mast tube. - beams for the mast and spreaders, no release...

    Femap/Nastran glued contact results

hello I am using Femap 10.3 and have modeled some surface connected with glued contact the behavious seems to be correct as expected, but can someone please help me with the different glue outputs, what they mean, units, etc ? -glue normal traction -glue traction (total, T1, T2, T3) -glue force...

    solid-mesh contact Femap-Nastran

Hi all I have made some progress on glued contacts, my models run correctly now and I have a question regarding post processing: Femap with Nastran proposes results 253 to 265, glue traction, glue force, glue moment. Can somone explain to me what they represent, and what units are used ? do they...

    solid-mesh contact Femap-Nastran

thanks, I´ll try that, but the problem is that my skins have complicated degressive layups so the surfaces are broken down in a multitude of small surfaces, to which I assigned all the different attributes before meshing.

    solid-mesh contact Femap-Nastran

hello all, I am trying to calculate a foil which consists of a laminated carbon fibre skin on a foam core. I have meshed the skin with 2D shell elements and the core with 3D solid elements I have tediously made all the contact regions and connectors using a glued property the static analysis...

composite sandwich panel with 2d faces and 3d core

merging coincident nodes didn't work and I am having a hard time making the glued contact between the 2d shell and the 3d core. the two regions I am trying to connect have effectively the same surface ID. I am a bit lost here, I would be grateful for some help

composite sandwich panel with 2d faces and 3d core

thanks crostolo, I'll try that why 3d for the core ? because I want to look into free edge effects and the 2d laminate elements don't allow that (I think)

composite sandwich panel with 2d faces and 3d core

hello all I am trying to simulate a simple composite sandwich panel with 2D laminate elements for the top and bottom faces, and 3D elements (isotropic material) for the core Geometry: 3D solid made in rhino, exported as .stp Mesh: I first meshed the solid, then the top and bottom surfaces with...

local buckling and composite sandwich materials

Hello, I am using Femap to check the local buckling behavior of a composite material tube of roughly elliptic shape under axial compression + bending moment. I am using 2D shell elements with laminate properties my layups are a mix of 2D orthotropic materials (the composite plies) and isotropic...

FEMAP : connect edge of shell elements to solid elements

Hello I am trying to model the bottom of a sailboat mast which consists of a carbon fibre mast tube sitting on a metal heelplug and it is subjected to a compression force. my plan is to model the carbon fibre tube with 2D shell laminate elements and the metal heelplug with 3D solid elements and...
