Design factor of safety as per ASME

Thanks Geesamand, This is required for valves stem design actually, so I am looking for what safety factors I can apply to the Yield & Ultimate strength values to get allowable for Tensile & shear.

Design factor of safety as per ASME

Hi, Can anyone guide me on factor of safety for Design that ASME codes advise us to use for Tensile & shear stress. To be specific I need info for Shaft / Screw design. As a rule of thumb we use 0.6 for tensile & 0.4 for shear stress, but are there any specific clauses in ASME codes that...

Mixing of fluids having different densities

Hi Latexman, I think the fluids will mix together without any reaction or heat effect, the fluids are Fuel oil & Diesel, can you advise on this?

Mixing of fluids having different densities

Hi, I am doing a pressure drop calculation for my project where there is a mixing of two fluids having densities of 980 Kg/m3 & 850 Kg/m3. Flow rates are 400 m3/hr & 120 m3/hr respectively. I am unsure of what the outlet flow rate will be. If we consider the volumetric flow rate, the outlet...

Temperature range for B7/2H HDG fasteners

Hi, Can anyone please advise me temperature range for B7/2H HDG fasteners, I have ambient temp. of -25 Deg C, so was worried if it can work at this low temperature. Also if I use A320 L7, will there be huge cost impact.

    High integrity seals

Thanks LittleInch Expanding gate valves were the first thought came to my mind too, but when I asked suppliers about the same, they told me that their valves are with high integrity seals & they are normal gate valves only. So can all Gate valves be said as High integrity valves?

    High integrity seals

Hi, My project specs says we need to use gate valves with high integrity seals. So I have below queries on this. What is meant by high integrity? If it means tight shut off, then can valve with Leakage class VI be said as high integrity valves? Are all Gate valves are high integrity valves only.

    PWHT requirement for LPG

I am using LTCS pipe ASTM A333 Gr.6. My worry is about LPG .. whether it needs to have PWHT to avoid brittle fracture.

    PWHT requirement for LPG

Hi, We are having LGP service for one of our project, is PWHT applicable here? Thickness of pipe is 5.49 mm so by code its not applicable.

Significance of C-node while evaluating effects of ship displacements in piping

Hi, I am doing piping stress analysis for one of our FPSO skids. Customer have told us a scenario that due to sagging & hogging of the ship, there are displacements in ship deck & hence those displacements should be taken into account while doing this analysis. These displacements are...

Hold down bolt torque for foundation bolts

Hi, I have been asked to provide hold down torque for foundation bolt of gr.8.8, HD galvanized. So I have below queries. 1. Presuming that its a tightening torque, do we need it for foundation bolt as we either use foundation pockets or an expansion bolt? 2. If yes, there are various standard...
