Hi all,
I have a pad eye being welded to a frame. The pad eye has a thickness of 30mm (calculated via DNV standard) and the frame is a box section with 4mm thickness.
I realise I will probably need to insert a plate in-between the two to allow a smoother transition of thicknesses and to help...

I am looking at the DNV's Design of Padeye (Appendix D) and came across a formula for contact stress (Figure D-1 Padeye) and was wondering if someone could explain the formula to me please.
The formula states that:
Contact Stress = 23.7 x (SQRT(RSL/DH x t))
