    LEG SUPPORTED ATMOSPHERIC TANKS

Hello! We are currently doing a project which includes atmospheric storage tanks that is supported by 2m high legs. We're not sure of the reference we need to follow for the leg calculation and bottom shell thickness. API650 is not applicable, isn't it? How about AWWA D100? Any other...

Stiffeners for Steel Liner Penstock Transition

Hi. I am studying how to calculate for the required external stiffener of a transition (rectangular to circular) on a penstock. The penstock is buried and has an external pressure of 0.6 MPa. Internal dimension of the transition is 4mW x 4.5mH to 2m internal dimension. I am looking at 2 cases...

API 650 Hydrotest Water Filling Rate

Hi LittleInch, There is a drain nozzle on the shell (i believe). I am doing a preliminary design and estimate cost for the required hydrotest. Are there any items that i missed? Thanks a lot for your help LittleInch, really appreciate it.

API 650 Hydrotest Water Filling Rate

Hi LittleInch, Yes you're correct on the area of 346sqm. I don't know where i got the 16.4 Anyway, I now understand the volumetric flow rate issue, but why choose 6" or 8"? Is it because we should limit the water velocity up to 2m/s? No advice from the client with regards to the service...

Design of External Heating Coils for API 650 Tanks

Hi! I am doing a study for full-pipe, half-pipe, and jacketed design of external coils for atmospheric tanks. I am new on this. Is there any Standard Code specific for this design? I searched API 650 yet I found none. I asked the Client for the required steam condition and still waiting for...

API 650 Hydrotest Water Filling Rate

Thanks zdas04 and LittleInch. For example, the tank has a dimension of 21mIDx22mH. Bottom course thickness is 14mm, thus maximum filling rate is 460mm/hr (below top course) and 300mm/hr (top course). Assuming maximum design level is same as tank height (which is really not, how to compute for...

API 650 Hydrotest Water Filling Rate

Hello guys, I have a concern with regards to the required volumetric flow rate for filling a tank to be hydrotested. Is there such thing? I was thinking i need this data for sizing the required pipes and pumps to be used by using Q=AV. Though API 650 gave Water Filling Rate at Section 7.3.6.5...

    API 650 TANK FOUNDATION

Hello JedClampett. Thanks for your comment. Is there any technical reference about this? Or any difference in properties? I wish to proove that oiled sand can be used better than what API 650 recommends.

    API 650 TANK FOUNDATION

Hi. Is there a difference between clean washed sand and oiled sand when used as tank based? Because as per API 650, a minimum of 75mm thick clean washed sand is recommended as tank sand base. But existing client's design uses 50mm thick oiled sand. Thanks.

    API 650 TANK FOUNDATION

Hello. I am doing a design verification of a tank based on API 650. For its foundation, as per API 650 12th edition Annex B, recommended sand base is 75mm to 100mm clean washed sand. But, client's existing design used a minimum of 50mm thick oiled sand. Is it acceptable? Or do we need to...

    LPG ODORANT INJECTION SYSTEM

Hello everyone! I am designing an LPG Odorant Injection System using mercaptan as the odorant. This is my first time to design such system. I only have the required odorant concentration which is 22.5ppm. How can i determine the required odorant gas flow and injection pressure? Thanks a lot.
