Good morning / afternoon / evening all,
Quick one. We work for an organization and we are a group of Engineering consultant, operating primarily in the welding field (inspection / supervision / welding engineering).
We have of the plainest and meaningless website you can imagine, and we would...
Hi All,
Trust you are all well and safe. I manage a small team of site workers (mainly welding supervision and inspection, but I suspect that in this sub-forum there is the largest number of site workers).
With the current virus outbreak (Australia), I need to plan a JSA for the workers that go...
Hi All,
Apologies for being silent over the past few days. Too many missing details in the question made its comprehension quite hard. I thank you all for trying to interpret what I was after.
Here is what I was looking for:

It is...
Thanks MintJulep,
Actually my question was not only focussed on the aviation industry. The two parts mentioned in my post are indicative. I suppose there may be other parts, e.g. part xyz for electrical safety; part yzx for medical devices; etc.
I have no idea, so I may be completely wrong...
Good (morning/afternoon/evening) everyone,
I have a question, and unfortunately I can only explain it as best as I can.. however with limited knowledge and understanding I am not sure I will be clear enough.
I have heard about quality auditing against various "parts", e.g. "Part 145" and...
Hi all,
I was wondering if any of you is aware of any free library for welded joint sketches (e.g. butt weld in different positions, etc).
Something like this, to give you an idea:

Thanks,

Hi All,
My (very) bad. gatw assumption is correct: the welder was removing excessive weld face reinforcement using a oxy-fuel torch., not as preparation for a repair (in that case they generally adopt carbon-arc gouging).
(As partial excuse, English is not my first language.. OT: do you have...
Hi All,
I am working on a project and yesterday I noticed something that did not look familiar to me.
We are talking about structural steel (grade 300 / 350). One of the welder was finishing the weld profile wth oxy-cut flame.
It was the first time I have witnessed a similar situation. Is...
Thanks IRstuff,
Problem I am facing at the moment is that I am in Malaysia, and the time required to do the calibration is 2 weeks (!). My instrument got lost (....) during the travel, so I had to source one locally (it's a Fluke).
I agree with your view.
Thanks,
P.
Hi everybdy,
Quick one.
I just purchased an infrared thermometer (Fluke) to check the pre-heat temperatures before welding operations. The thermometer is provided without calibration certificate, but with a declaration (in essence, a quality document).
My question would be:
1. Do I need to...
RolMec,
Exactly what I recommended to the Client, thanks for your input.
I was looking at the specs, and I noticed that the mech properties (tensile and hardness) are quite unusual for a "soft" bronze.
Recommended to go with the OEM.
Regards,
P.
Hi There,
Hopefully some of you can shed some light on this material : PAN Bz14.
It would appear a Bronze/Tin alloy, but I cannot find any additional information about the nominal chem composition. It's quite hard to source (not impossible, just hard) and having the exact chem compositionwould...
Yep, I know... that's the big threat. But being a 4 meters diameter wheel I cannot really propose SMAW or TIG for the root run...
I will try to stay a reasonably highish with the HI for the root run (around 1.8/2.2 kJ/mm) and for the filling / tempering runs I will try to adjust consequently...
Second part of the question: qualifying the personnel.
This is the current situation:
and this is how I was thinking to proceed:
The welder and welding operator will be qualified anyway for the groove weld, but still, I am probably doing a second test coupon to demonstrate that they can...
Gents,
Here I am again. I spent a bit of time on it. A bit of confusione between "weld build-up" and "overlay"...
QW-202.3 Weld Repair and Buildup. WPS qualified on groove welds shall be applicable for weld repairs to groove and fillet welds and for weld buildup under the following...
Thanks guys.
@Metengr: I will, I was thinking in the same direction. Need to get my head around about how to do the test coupon (thickness & tests).
@CWEng: I am aware that te B2 required PWHT, that's why my first choice for the ER70S-B2L..that forgive a bit more in terms of PWHT. We will put...
