    Stability

Hi, I have the following problem. I start a small symetric model which I analyse in static mode. Everything is stable, convergence is very good. I then switch to dynamic analysis, without adding anything (no force, no mass, nothing). The system is very simple, as shown in the picture. It consist...

    Convergence

Well, I tried to use the 9-node element but it is designed for coupled fluid-structure (effective) stress analysis hence it's not doing a good job for what I need. I was wondering if decreasing the size of the element could somehow solve this problems (using SSPquad element (SSP --> Stabilized...

    Convergence

Maybe I am wrong but I do not think it could be buckling since am doing plane strain analysis with quad-element. I am trying to obtain the ultimate bearing capacity of a foundation. I am wondering if it could be some problem with the interpolation function of the element. Since am using...

    Convergence

No, not really. It just says that the solver failed... Then you gota figure it out by yourself. I know it gotta have something to do with element distortion because when the mesh is large, I do not get this problems.

    Convergence

I am using Opensees. I conduct a planstrain analysis of quad element with elastic-per.plastic behaviour (Druck.P). When I take the same model with a little larger meshing, it's fine (but the answer is a little too high). When I refine, with same steps number, I crash close to solution. When I...

    Convergence

Hi, I am conducting a displacement controlled analysis. In a first attempt, I ran 30 000 steps for a 0.1 displacement total ( that make 0.1 / 30 000 displacement per steps). Then it failed at around 28800. I said fine, I'll just increase the number of step, to, say 35 000. There I thought I had...

    Mesh size

Thanks for the answer. I do find similar trends in my numerical model, wasn't sure if this was normal or not. The articles you propose are very interesting reading. Experimental results will proove usefull for my validation. Thanks again!

    Mesh size

Hi, I would like cue on a issue I have with my FE model. I do model (or try ot) the ultime bearing capacity of a footing resting on a purely frictionnal soils (I do take account the weight of the soil). I use quad element to mesh to soil. The stress-strain rel. is a Drucker-Prager. I did use...

Displacement - Stress analysis - ElasticIsotropic

Thanks for the answer. I did look unto that following your reply. I wasn't aware of this problems. Turns out it was not the problems here. The real problems was that I defined the node of the quad element clock-wise instead of counter-clock wise... took a while to realize !

Displacement - Stress analysis - ElasticIsotropic

Hi, I am modelling a soil deposit using quadElement. I use a ElasticIsotropic material for the moment. I define a grid 10x10 (meters) with meshing at 1 m in both directions. I assign mass to the element in their vertical direction to simulate gravity effect and I plots the results using R (you...

    Total stress analysis

Hi, I am trying to create a soil model to conduct a total stress analysis. I use Opensees to do so. I would like to know if my model constraints looks okay. I have a number of convergence issue and I wonder if those are due to my model being ill defined. The model have loop that iterate to...

    Gauss-Legendre

Thank alot for you help! I will be looking into that [bigsmile]

    Gauss-Legendre

Hi, I am new to the forum so if I post the question in the wrong section excuse me! I am a new user to the finite element method and I am learning by myself so please don't get offended if my question seem a little stupid... there is much to learn on the FE subject. Right now, am using the...
