Design of rc-beams, modelling slabs as shell elements and supporting beams as frame elements

Hi, just read your reply, tankyou mushtpk! Yes that´s what I think, since it was a basement floor and it´s way far from where the significant seismic induced rotations take place, I ended up designing it only with what SAFE reported. I am interested in the effect of lateral displacements on...

    Structural (Area meshing )

Hi, I hope this helps on time. There is a difference between meshing and dividing shell elements, although by dividing into smaller elements you are "manually meshing". You can call dividing an "external mesh", and just meshing an "internal mesh". To guide you I need to know which is it that...

    Structural (Area meshing )

Hi, You don't necessarily have to re-do the grid, just select the area or areas that you want to re-mesh and go to assign→shell→wall auto mesh options→ click the button with "Advanced - Modify/Show Auto Rectangular Mesh Settings.." on it → then select the size of the meshing as you want.

How to draw a multi span beam in Etabs 2008 vs Etabs 2013

Hi there! So you are new with ETABS, I wish I had had someone to ask this kind of questions when I had just started. Therefore it is great to help others as I may. If you are using ETABS 2013, whatever option of the above mentioned will be fine, except for the "mesh" option, meshing applies to...

    Basement wall in etabs

Hi, Above the basement all shear will be taken by the core wall. Once the accumulated shear reaches the basement top slab, this slab will act as a support to the cantilever beam that is your building (with a distributed wind load acting on it). This is generally what happens when the soil...

    Property Modifiers

Hi, How does modifiers affect the analysis results? The modifiers "modify" the element's stiffness → displacements are directly related to stiffness → design forces are dependent of displacements. So there you go, by changing the modifiers you are affecting the design forces. Now, if you are...

Design of rc-beams, modelling slabs as shell elements and supporting beams as frame elements

Hi, This is my first post. First of all I would like to thank you all for the help you have provided, by sharing opinions and giving advice on many structural design issues that I have come across more than once. Thank you! Second, concerning the subject; I have a pretty clear idea of how...
