    Edge constraints with Plane-stress

Any ideas how to solve this?

    Edge constraints with Plane-stress

I mean gaps that happen when you have a mismatched mesh. The following picture shows that exact same problem, the only difference is the area element type (I set the analysis option to Ux and Uy only in both cases to get identical results).

    Edge constraints with Plane-stress

According to SAP2000 documentation, Edge constraints work with all area element. However, I noticed that if I resolve the problem posted by CSI in this video using plane-stress, I can clearly see some gaps. Is there a way to fix this other than changing the element type to shell. Thanks

Eigenvalue buckling due to horizontal load

I am looking for a way to calculate it by hand.

Eigenvalue buckling due to horizontal load

All textbooks I found explains how to formulate matrices for columns under axial loads, and the results matches the analysis of commercial software like Ansys. However, I found that Ansys can calculate "Eigenvalue" buckling load for a column loaded with a horizontal force only! I wonder if...

    SAP 2000 Auto-generated design combos

I am using SAP 2000 to design a steel frame structure using AISC360-10, according to SAP2000 documentations, the generated load combos defined in ASCE7-2010. I have four load cases Dead, Live, Roof live, and wind loads. I noticed that SAP2000 generated combinations according to ASCE7-2010, but...

    SAP2000 API

I faced this problem before. Most likely, you forgot to assign section to one of (or all) line elements.
