lenght of thickened shell for non-standard flange

cbPVme, Thanks for your reply. The detail in PD5500 is Suggested Working Form2, or in EN13445-3 it's figure 11.5-2, not sure about ASME but it's a narrow faced flange with a stepped bore. With the shell thickness being greater than 16mm I think this prevents it from being a Loose Flange design...

lenght of thickened shell for non-standard flange

Hi All, I am designing a large diameter (>2400mm) slip-on plate flange connecting two parts of a vessel using the Taylor Forge method. The vessel is 10mm thick and in order to come out with a reasonable flange thickness I have thickened up the shell at the connection with the flange. Question...

Component loads obtained from a model that includes friction

Hi all, Hope somebody can help me out here. We normally model large diameter mains using CAESAR, mainly as a flexibility analysis, support movement check, expansion joint movements etc, as well as providing component loads for structural designers. The Structural engineers need the component...

Using JIS materials when designing to ASME VIII Div1&2

Ok, I thought I was sorted with the requirments of ASME VIII Div1, but most of our work will be Design by Analysis, using FEA models to the Rules of Div2. ASME VIII, Division 2 Part 3.2 states that material used for the construction of pressure parts shall be limited to those that are shown in...

Using JIS materials when designing to ASME VIII Div1&2

Thanks SnTMan. I guess this is where we see materials being 'dual-certified'? I have come across test certs from India/China where the material is quoted as dual certified as an Indian/Chinese material dual certified with A516 Gr70 for instance. And this would have to be the case unless the...

Using JIS materials when designing to ASME VIII Div1&2

Having read through section UG-10 of ASME VIII Div1, I am still unsure. We have a contract for the far east where the client wants to use a JIS material, or specifically, JIS G3115 SPV315, which is a PV Steel. We have no problem with this but we need to confirm if ASME allows it. We would be...
