Out of Roundness of Exchanger Shell

Good day! Our company purchased a new exchanger shell as replacement for an old one. During the installation of the spare tube bundle we have noticed that the shell is not round on different locations, especially on the shell's vapor belts. We have told the manufacturer about this and we had...

Hydrotest cannot be done after vessel alteration. Any alternatives?

TGS4 - it is a naphtha splitter tower keyen - the code of construction is ASME VIII Div 1 1970s. again, i know hydrotest is a requirement for repairs and alterations but the issue is that based on the thickness data of the tower it can no longer sustain the hydrotest pressure. metengr - it is...

Hydrotest cannot be done after vessel alteration. Any alternatives?

Hello, Our company was planning to do a sectional replacement of the thinning tower shell due to CUI. The problems that arose were: 1. As of the latest UT data of the tower, bottom ellipsoidal head can no longer withstand the hydrotest pressure. 2. Even if we do leak test pressure only, the...

    SS410 Plug alternative

Hello! Our company have a tube exchanger due for plugging. The tube material is SS410 hence an SS410 plug is recommended. However, we currently do not have a SS410 material to make the plugs. Also, since tube side pressure is higher than the shell side, the plug must be welded into the tube...

    Reducing Thread Length Engagement

desertfox, Ive check ASME and Dsmin is 99.4mm and Enmax is 96.5 mm. Also, the male thread is the adaptor with major diameter of 100mm and not the female shaft in your solution. Here's a copy of ASME1.13M for your reference : https://www.scribd.com/doc/124894297/Asme-b1-13M-2005 Also, we've...

    Reducing Thread Length Engagement

Hello chicopee, Sorry, The drawing is only for the general picture of the situation but doesn't represent ta actual threads in use. You were right about my case not involving nuts and bolts as these are threaded shafts. Do you know of any other references aside from the one I'm using (ASME 1.13M)?

    Reducing Thread Length Engagement

    Hello desertfox, I am using the same formula too. I was wondering how you got the 74mm LE. I'm getting 96.1 mm using the simplified formula A t = (π/4)*(D - 0.64952*p )^2 Le (min) = 2*At / [0.5*π*(D - 0.64952*p )] where D = 100 mm , p = 6 mm while I'm getting 68 mm using Le (min) = 2*At/...

    Reducing Thread Length Engagement

Hello desertfox, sorry about. The thread is M100 x 16. Material is DIN 1.2344. Based from http://www.steel-grades.com/Steel-Grades/Tool-Steel/DIN-1-2344.html Yield = 414 MPa and Tensile = 367 MPa

    Reducing Thread Length Engagement

@desertfox during operation, the shaft experiences 1200 bars. the material is DIN 1.2344. Pitch is 6 mm at 100 major diameter and 94 minor diameter. Original thread engagement is 60mm while adaptor major diameter is 100 so the one bolt diameter is not an acceptable rule of thumb in this case...

    Reducing Thread Length Engagement

Background: We have an internally threaded shaft connected to a threaded adaptor (see photo) Due to the excess length of the shaft, we were thinking of decreasing the effective thread engagement of shaft and adapter by cutting 120 mm on the extruder shaft ends. Since the shaft end of the...
