Residental building - large shear forces in the RC slab

Makes sense. I agree. Well, sounds good but since I have never done anything like that I don't think I can afford to experiment. I'm not even sure if I will be able to find anything about it in Eurocodes. I think I'll go with stud rails.

Residental building - large shear forces in the RC slab

Thank you for an answer. Yes, walls are concrete... What is the main reason behind it?

Residental building - large shear forces in the RC slab

Hello, I'm dealing with the small residental building with RC slab that is 260 mm thick. The slab can't be any thicker. The slab is heavily loaded on the cantilever part (overhangs in both directions) because the upper storey has different plan view (see 3d image of the structure), so it has...

New CLT slab supported on existing RC columns

Hi, I'm dealing with the existing residental building with the masonry and concrete walls 300 mm thick and the RC frames in the ground floor that support existing concrete slab. RC columns are 300x300 mm and are reaching 5 m above the RC slab - they are supporting existing roof beams at the...

timber diagonals for wall bracing - tension/compression?

Hello, I am looking at timber frame rsidental buildings and I have a question about designing of wall bracing - diagonals: are this diagonals designed to carry only in compression or both? comression + tension? In case of seismic forces we can get large compression/tension forces in diagonals...

    Concrete wall buckling?

@centondollar Thank you for reply but I think I won't go there - I think I should take more simple way. @KootK I have been thinking the same thing but couldn+t find it in EC2. @HTURKAK Thank you,I don't know why but somehow I missed it.

    Concrete wall buckling?

Hi! We are dealing with the existing RC walls (200 mm thick). Above the walls is the RC slab (200 mm thick)and existing timber roof (will be removed). The plan is to add a new light storey (timber CLT walls and slabs)on top of existing one (instead of existing timber roof). This means that...

Reinforcing old existing timber ceiling with concrete slab (composite)

Hello An old timber ceiling consists of timber beams (0,70 m apart) and plywood above them. I'd like to reinforce it by adding the concrete slab on top of it - to make a composite (see images bellow). This is a common practice in my country for reinforcing old existing buildings (it connects...

Ultimate axial load and moment interaction diagrams for RC walls

I got your email. Will check spreadsheets. I appreciate it, that was helpful. Regards.

Ultimate axial load and moment interaction diagrams for RC walls

@IDS I'm not really sure since it's a research/university software. I'm pretty sure it's rectangular stress block. Not that I'm aware of. Software is based on Eurocode standards. It stands for MESH REINFORCEMENT, 500 as 500 MPa - reinf. yield my email: gmd255@gmail.com

Ultimate axial load and moment interaction diagrams for RC walls

@IDS thank you for reply. Can you send me ULS Design Functions.xlsb file with inputs of my OP. I think it'll be easier that way. Regards.

Ultimate axial load and moment interaction diagrams for RC walls

Hi, I'm searching for some tools to help me with designing of RC walls according to eurocode EC8. I need a tool to help me determine reinforcement based on the ultimate axial load and moment(interaction diagrams) for RC walls. Do you guys know for any free software or spreadsheet for this...

Two retaining walls on the common footing

Greetings, I have to design a RC retaining wall as shown in the attached image bellow. Wall 1 is high (4 m above the footing) and wall 2 is shorter (aprox. 2 m above the footing). I have 2 RC walls on common footing. I was wondering how the earth pressure acts on wall1/wall2? On wall 1 acts...

foundation slab + edge beam - shear forces?

Greetings, let's say the structure with RC columns on the foundation slab with the edge beam around the perimeter - I'm thinking about shear forces between edge beam and foundation slab in the area of columns. There is a spike of shear forces in this area because of the large forces in columns...

foundation concrete slab - dilatation yes/no?

Greetings Contractor wants me to make this foundation slab (residental building) in one piece since he is worried about differential settlements. He also wants outer (smaller) part of the foundation slab to be only 200 mm thick. I do not like any of the proposed solutions. If I make this in one...

residental building on foundation slab - 0,80 m above terrain?

I agree with both replies. But would you still construct the stem walls in case the foundation slab in 'only' 300 mm above terrain? Would you do this in case flooding is not an issue? As I know, you have to make stem walls everytime foundation slab is above ground level?

    warehouse design question

This is what I came up with. As far as seismic goes this gave me the best results, the question is how expensive this is. I like RC roof slab since it really connects structure together and there is no detail issues with steel bracing etc. One more question regarding cost: compering RC moment...

    warehouse design question

Thank you both for reply. Ganesh Persaud I was thinking about something like that but they are not that keen on the steel. KootK I agree with what you wrote. Just one thing - if I brace all fields (not just the first one where slab is missing) I transfer all transverse horizontal forces...
