    Pulley bearings

I believe the assembly is called a static pulley. It uses a static shaft, while the drum rotates. Companies like this one linked below could give you better insight of construction and maintenance practice for these units. Link

Best method to repair a Spherical OD journal bearing (also called babbitt sleeve bearing)?

I will use this for an example: A 4" journal turns at 100 rpm , the circumference is moving at 100 feet per minute...... Out of an old book on journal bearings Under 600 feet per minute (Diameter X .001) + .001 = recommended clearance Same book over 600 feet per minute (Diameter X...

Best method to repair a Spherical OD journal bearing (also called babbitt sleeve bearing)?

Curiosity, is getting the better of me..... How did you come up with the .007 vs .015 for the Inside Diameter? How did you check the fit on the outside diameter? If it really is out of spec.. Why not make the supplier fix the issue?

Increasing Vibrations in 15,000 hp Centrifugal Pump

I'm curious.. What is the shaft size and clearance in the journal bearings? What is the clearance in the wear rings? Is it a sleeve bearing with a bronze oil ring? What is the rpm?

    Vertical Shaft Pump Runout

Obviously, is it just a paper trail issue? or did something actually happen to the shafting? I would suggest some reading material.....[: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airy_points :] And some V blocks, in the absence of a granite plate a large milling machine table would work. A lathe with...

    Vertical Shaft Pump Runout

So what is going on with your pump, that caused you to want to measure shaft run out? Pump Bowl shafting is .002 per foot TIR line shafting is .005 per foot TIR You might as well tell us spider spacing, HP, RPM..... Etc....

    Crane maintenance and problems

Question 1: ..... someone answered Question 2: ..... someone answered ......Add some more info..electrically operated cranes..Control Brake and a Load Brake one controls lowering of the load and the other brakes when stopped..Holds the load.....Sometimes the control brake is built into the...

    VTP Pump major failure

Out of curiosity, Do you have more pictures? What size of shafting? How much HP? & RPM? What is length of of pump assembly? and column pipe length? Usually, from my experience, spider bearings and or pump bowl bearing lock up when you have a dry run or not enough liquid to lube the...

    Torque to be applied

A 30mm gap? I've run into something similar, you might need to look for an adapter sleeve or European term collet as we discovered when management went looking for a replacement for a damaged part. Re-Measure everything, make sure it right. I know its a long process, use the 1/4 turn draw...

    Torque to be applied

I have seen two different ways to deal with shrink disk or Ringfeder couplings. One way is continuous tightening in 1/4 turn increments. The second is a crisscross pattern. The last one, I worked with the mechanics would pull through the torque wrench click with a little extra. That day it...

Motor anti-reverse-rotation device failure (sliding pin type)

Did anyone stop and consider it might be an anti-reverse device that uses steel balls instead of pins?

Motor anti-reverse-rotation device failure (sliding pin type)

Holes are to small .015 to .02 clearance, no lubrication required. A tight fit on pins / hardened dowels will not allow the movement that you need for the ratchet to work properly. opinion: As for the extra holes, I would keep them. no springs, gravity does the work. re examine the pin size.

Hot alignment & Motor run test

After.. I would recommend some sort of alignment monitoring. Example: RotAlign live trend. The computer knows where you left the alignment, after running you will have an idea of how each machine grows thermally. There is of course the old stand by..... dial indicators and graph paper.....

    BB2 Pump Mechanical Seal Installation

Maybe the instructions are referring to play / clearance between the Plain bearings I.e. wear rings and wear sleeves? Excessive clearances will affect the pump while running.

    Poor pump reliability

Larger line shafting would of fixed rigidity of 10ft joints, but not the lube requirements....... Grease packed pump bearings and oil column for the line shafting.....

Free Body for Pump Nozzle and Pump Bracing Forces/Moments

Is this a new installation? If the pump nozzle has a flange for a bolted connection. Why would you need an extra brace? In my opinion you should: Double check minimum submergence over the eye of the suction impeller. Probably should recheck your base plate thickness as well.
