Hello
looking to heat a fabricated housing of a bearing to aid its installation.
can someone please guide as to the temperature I can take it to without any ramifications (i.e. it cools down and there are no effects)?
Steel is 350MPa yeild strength
Thank you
Thanks A-Run
i have requested and will keep you posted.
the text 'Rubber Springs Desing" by Goebel is most helpful too. I obtained a 1974 copy from my library.
Hello
I have a drawing of a shaft which nominates mechanical material properties as:
Yeild = 460 MPa min
tensile = 690-840 MPa
breaking elongation = 15%
notched bar impact value - DVM test = 38 Joules
It is the DVM test which is confusing me: I cannot find any information on...
Hello Eng Tips.
I have a situation i'd like to model - it includes rubber as a cushion/ isolation between steel components. The application is a surface scraper: a blade connected to supporting steel via a rubber isolation cushion. I know the force at the blade, and want to check the...
Hello,
I have a cylinder (actually a hydraulic Jack) which is subject to side load and am consdiering jacking stability.
I would like to know if anyone has ever come across any guidance as what to take as the tipping axis for the cylinder.
One reference I have states 0.95 x cylinder radius...
Thanks @ kingnero and @RolMec and @dhengr
Much appreciated.
I have since obtained a copy of DIN standard, not sure if i can post the whole document here?
Hello Forum.
I have an old (circa 1980) German drawing showing this weld symbol.
Drawing doesn't nominate a standard - however would almost certainly be a DIN standard.
From what I can tell - Double V butt weld, all around the periphery, has to have full NDT (x-ray, or more contemporarily...

Average ID is 800mm (tapers slightly)
length is 10m
Not sure how the above is relevant, however gives an idea of the confined space size.
Still interested in what material would be removed from the shell using different blast media?
Hello,
I am getting the welds in a tube examined by NDE (ultrasonics). I need to prepare the welds on the inside of the tube (which is a confined space).
The thickness of the tube is extremely important. The NDT technician has requested sand blasting, I do not want to remove any material...
