The APA and the AWA both use 1.0 for the Cg factor of repetitive bolts in a wood member. This seems at first to be too high. Does anyone have more information or edification on this. Thanks to all who answered this posting. Cayroo
Thanks for all the help. The specific values I am looking for is the Z' or the Cg value for the reduction for multiple bolts in a wood member. I contacted the APA and the AWA and both do not take a reduction for multiple bolts in a sill plate or use the value of Cg as 1.0. If anyone knows of...
I am trying to find a current table that gives the allowable shear per anchor bolt with multiple bolts under shear walls in the wood to concrete contection. It used to the called out in an old UBC and is not even listed in the NSD. Beyer's book gives a formula and tells you to use the multiple...
dpa,
I use the lateral engineering program called LatPro for wood framed structures which allows a fairly concise way to keep track of loads, diaphragms and shear walls. It has saved me a lot of time. You may want to take a look at lateralpro.com web site.
Thanks for your reply rlFlower. I am not so sure Simpson has dealt with this issue with its pre-deflected holdown. Why would they list in their 2003 catalog the amount of holdown deflection at highest allowable design load? Why is this deflection almost as great as the other Simpson holdowns...
I am doing an analysis of a wood-framed rigid diaphragm and I am trying to find the value for da, the displacement of the tie-down or deflection at highest allowable design load. The Simpson Company publishes some but not all of their holdown and strap values. Does anyone know a source for the...
I am doing an analysis of a wood-framed rigid diaphragm and I am trying to find the chord anchorage slip of various holdowns and straps. The Simpson Company supplies some but not all of their holdown and strap values. Does anyone know a source for these values? Do you engineering each strap...
I am trying to do an analysis of a rigid diaphragm and I am trying to find the chord anchorage slip of various holdowns and straps. The Simpson Company supplies the slip deflection value for some but not all of their products. Does anyone know a source for these values? Does everyone...
I have just purchased LatPro for wind and earthquake calcs and I am very pleased with it. I haven't heard of the software you mention, could you give a web site for me to take a look? LatPro info is available at lateralpro.com. I hope this helps.
I am trying to do an analysis of a rigid diaphragm and I am trying to find the chord anchorage slip of various holdowns and straps. The Simpson Company supplies the slip deflection value for some of their hardware, but not all. Does anyone know a source for these values, such as ST, MST, PHD...
I am asking about wood posts with a Simpson PC or EPC, rated for a lateral load of between 925 to 1610 pounds in the direction of the beam, with a Simpson column base. Would the base connection preclude the use of the column cap to transfer shear down to the foundation?
Does anyone know how to calculate the story drift on a building grid line whose only lateral force resisting members are post caps, such as Simpson PC or EPC caps, and the grid line does not contain any other type of shear wall?
One new lateral engineering program I just purchased I am very happy with. It is called LatPro, lateralpro.com is the web site. I also had the problems structuralist mentioned about being time-consuming to model and work with in both KeyLat and Woodworks. One caveat so far is that the program...
I just found a lateral engineering software that appears to be a new product, at lateralpro.com, has anyone used it before and would they recommend it? I do structural engineering for homes or small commercial structures and I would like to find a software product that is easy to use. I have...
