    Bolting for Cryogenic Service

If they're identical, what's the point of two different standards? Is there any difference between the two at all?

    Bolting for Cryogenic Service

Are ASTM A193 B8M Class 1 (316 stainless steel) bolts rated for cryogenic service? I see some online resources stating a temperature range of -450 °F to +1500 °F. Is this accurate? My concern is that the standard itself is titled "Bolting for High Temperature and High Pressure Service". Does...

Maximum Clearance Between Socket ID and Pipe OD?

Agreed. However, there are other constraints/variables that limit the situation to only accommodate what GD2 suggested. Thank you guys for your input.

Maximum Clearance Between Socket ID and Pipe OD?

GD2, Actually, that's an excellent suggestion. Sometimes the simplest of solutions elude us. Thank you my good sir. I tip my hat to you.

Maximum Clearance Between Socket ID and Pipe OD?

The threads will definitely not be machined. The joint will need be done properly. Machining the threads would only increase the instability of the joint by creating too much play and relying on the weld to be the primary support for the joint. Not to mention creating centering issues. None of...

    Valve Socket Weld Question

Yeah, my apologies, I didn't explain that the tee internal bore was not threaded. It was intended for a welded connection. He ultimately decided to replace one of the two parts in order to make it a more reliable connection. Thank you guys.

Maximum Clearance Between Socket ID and Pipe OD?

Do ASME B16.11 or B31.3 (or any other standard)specify the maximum allowable clearance between the socket internal diameter and the pipe outer diameter? All I can find is a minimum gap between the pipe end and the socket shoulder of 1/16 of an inch, but is there any specification for a maximum...

    Valve Socket Weld Question

Note: Please see pictures below for a visual. A friend asked me regarding the integrity of a socket weld done on a connection from a drain valve to a tee. Essentially, the drain valve ordered came in threaded on the end that was intended to be welded into the tee. So, he decided to go ahead and...

Strength of Welds on Valve Stem Coupling

I need a way to calculate this without having to physically test it.

Strength of Welds on Valve Stem Coupling

I work in the Valve & Automation industry and often design couplings to adapt a valve stem to the actuator drive. Long story short, sometimes these couplings are made from two welded pieces and I'm looking for anyone experienced in strength of weldments calculations to help guide me in...
