Air India 787 crashes on take off

This video from Hoover (pilot debrief) touches on an idea  LittleInch posited back in posts #34 & 36, that the fuel cutoffs may have been inadvertently activated when attempting to adjust for a failing engine just at the V1 point.

Guizhou bridge collapsed due to landslide

This is old - sorry, thought it was new. Well, I think this is new . . . an earlier time/date stamp on the ShanghaiEye video had the year as 2024. It says 2025 now. https://www.yahoo.com/news/driver-truck-hangs-precariously-over-095848390.html

Guizhou bridge collapsed due to landslide

Crazy rescue of a semi truck driver on the approach of a bridge that collapsed in Guizho, China. Driver was quite fortunate the trailer wedged as it did and cab/trailer pin did not fail

    Elon's Roman Candles

According to this story, SpaceX has completed in-orbit fuel transfer. The accomplishment got little attention. If the tools and techniques are solid, the in-orbit refueling is figured out. The logistics of getting tanker Statships positioned as required along the Earth-to-Mars path remains to...

Titan sub noise heard on board support ship.

The OG board members have some culpability too. Though they probably did not have direct control of design and testing, they apparently supported Stockton Rush as CEO. At least two of the board members have subsea/marine/naval experience. I have not seen any indications the board publicly...

    Elon's Roman Candles

Cryogenic fuels either need to be prepositioned for use or produced in-situ - neither technique or tech exists. Either task is daunting, yet they are spoken of off-handedly - 'we will refuel in orbit, no problem'. That is part of where I see the hype of Starship. A manned mission is so much more...

    Elon's Roman Candles

Regardless, in-orbit refueling or Moon-base refueling, there is a huge technology void to be filled for fuel production, oxygen production, food production, and water production. Certainly the fuel, O2, food and H2O can all be boosted to orbit from Earth - it should just be a logistical exercise...

I have the same question: I don't see any guidance in the FAQs. Or I have missed it. . .

Tesla Cybertruck fire and alleged design flaw. . .

Interesting an electric door release without a mechanical scheme is able to pass a reasonable functionality/hazard mitigation review for use in a passenger vehicle.

    Elon's Roman Candles

I don't understand the hype of the Starship. How will this single piece of hardware make a trip to Mars possible for a human? Starship, though a large and powerful rocket cannot lift and transport the necessary life support materials and fuel for a trip to Mars and a return trip. The distance...

Tesla Cybertruck fire and alleged design flaw. . .

This story says a lawsuit has been filed against Tesla on behalf of the family of a man who crashed his CT and was unable to open the electrically operated doors after the electrical system became damaged by the crash, and he perished in the vehicle fire created by the battery in a thermal...

Air India 787 crashes on take off

Wow, incorrect FADEC input can put even an experienced crew in a pinch if they are not fully paying attention.

Titan sub noise heard on board support ship.

I get what you are saying about the potential effects of moisture on the epoxy/Ti bonds. I am more interested in how an unproven/non-standard design could have been properly engineered and the missteps of the OceanGate team leading to the disaster. Now that I have a better understanding of some...

Titan sub noise heard on board support ship.

The cyclical testing regimen of a Classing Cert would have caught the failure whether it was the CF hull or the bonds at the Ti domes. A minimum of 2002 pressure cycles would have been required to state Titan was qualified for a single dive while carrying humans.

Titan sub noise heard on board support ship.

Tomfh - I understand the confidence in your statement in Post #64. I have found some info on "Classing Testing" which has been constantly mentioned but never described in any detail. If OceanGate had followed even a partial set of the test prescribed by the ABS - just one of many certifying...

Titan sub noise heard on board support ship.

Tomfh - I get what you are saying. If the Titan had survived long enough for Stockton and the OceanGate team to figure out the design and fabrication method for a reliable and safe hull, they would have been celebrated for pushing the limits of technology, and pursuing a goal with a 'damn the...

Titan sub noise heard on board support ship.

The Netflix documentary is quite condemning of Stockton Rush. It definitely appears he normalized the risk of implosion and ignored the very sounds of the hull failing. He solo piloted the Titan to 3939 meters on its first test dives and with all the sounds of the hull popping around, he...

    Crazy cantilevered steel deck

Hopefully, that balcony rig-up is an AI image. Crazy, if it is not!

    Crazy cantilevered steel deck

Ron247 - thank you for the very detailed discussion! I get why the seemingly reasonable deck (to a non-structural observer) caught the attention all the structural engineers! It is disappointing Steve Bazcek did not respond to your friend's inquiry about the shim. Certainly, he has his reasons...
