    Good day people. How do you decide on the proper Normal stresses values to use in a Direct shear test. Is it based on the global stresses of soil and the depth with which we extracted the sample or it is based on the induced stresses by the proposed building. Please help.

    Thank you for the responses guys, I will inquire more from them. @fattdad, I ended up opting for hand calculations. I just found it concerning that I had two values before submitting the report which was due. I will analyse settlement on the detailed report, however thank you for the heads-up.
