Good day people. How do you decide on the proper Normal stresses values to use in a Direct shear test. Is it based on the global stresses of soil and the depth with which we extracted the sample or it is based on the induced stresses by the proposed building. Please help.
So here is the thing, our reinforcement didn't go all the way to the toe depth of our piles. Why? I would say because ground performance can vary so much,aaagh! Anyway, we had based our design on a geotech investigation that highlighted that we could reach hard bedrock at depths of around 7-9m...

@fattdad, I ended up opting for hand calculations. I just found it concerning that I had two values before submitting the report which was due. I will analyse settlement on the detailed report, however thank you for the heads-up.
