    RTU Curb/Catwalk Mounting

Thanks for the reply! So the curb sits on the roof deck directly, and secures to the deck via screws? This is in line what ive gathered from watching RTU curb installation videos on youtube. However this would also have potentially large deck "crushing" forces at the locations where the deck...

    RTU Curb/Catwalk Mounting

US based, I work for an industrial platform manufacturer. I've been tasked with designing small RTU access platforms on top of a typical joist + metal deck roof. I have designed plenty of RTU frames/joist reinforcing, however it got me thinking - how does an RTU curb physically attach to...

Designing Lintel to bear on unreinforced masonry

Hardbutmild: Thanks for the feedback. In my day job, our typical detail for WF lintels bearing on masonry is similar to this but with welded studs instead of rebar. Its just for good measure I guess, forms and actual connection between the beam, bearing plate and masonry wall vs just resting on...

Designing Lintel to bear on unreinforced masonry

Thanks for the response! I freehanded a few drawings and added links to the original post. The thing I'm most concerned about is the parallel pocket connection to the new lintel, as well as calculating the capacity of this parallel wall as it is completely unreinforced.

Designing Lintel to bear on unreinforced masonry

Hi everyone, a friend of mine is taking down a masonry wall and asked if I could design the lintel required to support the 2nd floor-roof brick/floor joists above. I am a structural engineer, but my masonry experience is limited to larger buildings with reinforced CMU...vs single wythe brick...

    Beam End Shear Reaction zero???

Hi, I modeled a very simple frame with pinned supports. I applied a "none" shell area over gravity beams (set to auto-select) and a dead load. Once I run the analysis and then run a steel design check of members, the program sizes the members and shows strong-axis moments. However, when i click...
