Need Some Help in Multi-storey Building Design

Hi, I am seeking some help from you guys for a 5-storey building (with no basement) that I am designing. The slabs are concrete and are supported by steel beam-column frames and a concrete core wall that located on the north-east corner. The soil condition from the soil report: 0-3m: FILL, 3-7m...

What is wall tie in warehouse for

Thank you very much Civeng80. :) you are a legend. I think I know how it works now (although I haven't seen anyone running a buckling analysis on purlin for lateral load, maybe the load is too small so it can be ignored.) I have also seen people using a plate on top of the panels joints to get...

What is wall tie in warehouse for

I can understand how channel works but still am not sure how EA works in another direction.

What is wall tie in warehouse for

Hi Agent666, seems like it is quite a normal practise here to use channel on one direction and angle on the other. I haven't seen channel all around to replace EA (EA will be used to carry purlins too). I am not quite sure the span of EA you refer to here. Let's say each EA has bolts to panels...

What is wall tie in warehouse for

So if I understand you correctly, if roof beams are at the joints of panels or if there is only one panel, these wall ties are not needed because we can use the panels themselves (with reinforcement) as ties? What about the orthogonal grid, how can we use EA considering it has very weak capacity...

What is wall tie in warehouse for

It is just some precast panels with cast-in plate to connect themselves together and dowel bars to footings.

What is wall tie in warehouse for

Hi civeng80 & human909. Sorry for the confusion. The second picture is for the third question only (I simply wanna know how wind load is distributed in that case), nothing to do with the warehouse. There is no portal frames in warehouse, just panels and roof structure.

What is wall tie in warehouse for

Thank you JAE and Ron247. They call it wall tie in Australia. No idea if we are talking about the same thing. It is simply just members (normally PFC) running along precast concrete panels (abut) and connects with RA (EA Sections normally) and roof beams. So despite the difference in...

What is wall tie in warehouse for

Hello everyone, I am relatively new to warehouse design and hope someone can help me regarding this. Above is the scheme of structural plan. My questions are: 1. What is wall tie (normally PFC in 90 degree axes angles) for? My understanding is to work as a tie in 'strut & tie wind truss' to...

Concrete Material Connection Rigid Or Pinned?

Thanks jayrod12. I still don't understand why overturning is not an issue in pad footing design. Even if you design it as pin connection you will still have at least min. reinforcement in the columns and starter bars from the footing, which will give you a rigid connection and attract moment...

Concrete Material Connection Rigid Or Pinned?

Thanks everyone :). Looks like it is more of a "old style" way to comp the RC beams. What about the pad footing (item 2) and PT transfer slab issue (item 3)? Can anyone please comment? Thank you.

Concrete Material Connection Rigid Or Pinned?

Hello everyone, I guess this question has been discussed here but I still want some thoughts from you guys. 1. For concrete continuous beams analysis & design. I tend to model the frame that includes the concrete columns. However, I have seen many people model continuous beams with external &...

Core Wall - Raft Stability Check?

Thanks for your reply Trenno. The structure is a multi-storey apartment with one basement. There is a 300mm Thick concrete slab on the ground floor (no openings near the core). The lateral load will be resisted by the lift core. It is a prelimary design and I am wondering if I can take the...

Core Wall - Raft Stability Check?

Hi guys, I have a structure that has a basement. If I use the ground floor as base, do I still need to check raft-soil stability under wind and earthquake? Thank you.
