One question arises more questions
At the picture you can see white powder like substance at sacrificial anode at distribution chamber. From my experience I cannot say that it is low to moderate corrosion and it doesnt actually looks good to me.
Analyzes of treated water from the lake
Total Hardness mg/l CaCO3 max. 1100
Calcium Hardness mg/l CaCO3 max. 550
Organic substances mg/l max 50
Total Iron mg/l max. 2.5

Dear all,
During this turnaround we discovered that some coolers had deposits at sacrificial anodes at distribution chamber and some were consumed. Those anodes that had deposits on them didn't have any traces of deposit at the tube bundle. If anybody had an experience on having the same issue...
Dear all,
Thank you for your answers
1. pH of stripped water is always at target between 6.5 - 7.5 and during period of 4 month of operation those parameters didn't change much
2. H2S is stripped around 99% in the column, so there shouldn't be any issue with H2S Corrosion and lab analysis...
Dear all,
In sour water stripping unit (SWS), reboiler had issue with pores/holes in tube bundle. In General Turnaround, this year, new tube bundle has been introduced to shell and after 4 month of operation pores/holes at tube bundle appeared. Material of tube bundle is Carbon Steel. Pores are...
I forget to write that Cl is also exists: 7.6 mg/l
Is it possible that Cl dissolved in water will cause pitting of 306 and at high pressure at 40 bar, H will induce into crystal lattice and ssc will begin?
To be honest I am a little bit confused. If i will choose austenitic material, which...
Let me first tell you a little bit of history. 4X4 Heat Exchangers. From Shell side it is gasoline + water+ H2+H2S+NH4CL+CL while at tube side are gases + H2. HX functioned normally before refinery decided to build LPG Recovery, which started to function few month ago and all H2 absorbed by...
Dear all,
Which material will be good for tube bundles of HX:
Working parameters:
The battery of HX at NHT represents a critical area in terms of service life. Technological parameters in which these exchangers work:
- Tube bundle -gasoline ~45 bar, recovered from several process machinery +...
Hi everyone
I need advices regarding a topic that I am about to present, looking forward to have good advices from your sides. Thank you in advance.
Topic is about piping inspection programs by governmental standards. By those standards, each industry, in my case refinery, must perform...
Hi,
I need your professional point of view at choosing correct material in my situation. A problem is that piping( elbow of piping) that transfer all H2S from Amine gas feed to Claus Plant have hole due to corrosion. Piping have been installed at 2013 by NACE 0103.
Composition of flux:
H2S –...
Hi,
There are several spherical storage tanks that will have or having external corrosion due to drainage of water at summer time through fire fighting system. I suspect, operators afraid of vapor pressure increase due to heat that is why at hot summer time they irrigate all tanks. What I...
Dear all
At plant we have corrosion issue at heat exchanger. Could you please provide me some information about how to solve this issue and in case of choosing right alloy, which alloy will be best for my case.

Hi hemiv,
Totaly agree with Lomarandil, at company it is very difficult to find mentor, however, i personally think that in your situation if you don't have any mentor right now it doesnt mean that you should concentrate on searching for a mentor. For now, the best choice that I can see is to...
Dear Buggar and HotRod10
Good idea! However, pipes are above ground and there isn't much space at installations to maneuver
About Bosun chairs, I need to talk with Safety Department if it is acceptable. But as far as i know Bosun chairs are not as stable as scaffolds and that can be the...
Yeah, we are using this kinds of manlifting machines, however, they don't have access to inside of installation. IT is unfortunate limitation
About those 3 options that LittleInch provided. They are pretty good. I will try to find some way to implement them. Than you.
Overall situation is like this:
Authorities decided to monitor overall condition of pipes and equipment at the plant by making us or subcontractors to develop special non- destructive programs. Okay, lets now concentrate at pipes. Each program consists of several non-destructive examination...
Hi LittleInch
Thank you for answer. Yes, I meant piping:)
Here, at local refinery all non-destructive examination for piping are done while in service to save time and energy.
Unfortunately, local law dictates that it is mandatory to make Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement while UT/guided...
Hi everyone
Let me introduce you overall situation that I am encountering now and hope that there exist alternatives. At refinery, each year we have to perform Non-Destructive Test at pipelines ( near welds, at elbows, after supports and etc.). It means, that at each welds, elbows, support we...
