    Forged Crosses and ASME B31.3

Thanks saplanti, that's a really interesting and useful link.

    Forged Crosses and ASME B31.3

Wish I had the ability to do that, but I'm far too low down the food-chain. I'm not even actually sure who the end client is in this case!

    Forged Crosses and ASME B31.3

    >>I don't like the wording "We don't have the time or budget in this job" Me either, and that's why I am asking the question rather than blindly agreeing. I've made it clear internally that I'm going to need to do burst tests before my name goes anywhere near it, however whilst the wheels of...

    Forged Crosses and ASME B31.3

Re: -fifty_three Our tees are pretty analogous to an extruded outlet (we start with seamless pipe and then forge and extrude) and we typically use the replacement area calculations for those as design justification when clients require it. Re: LittleInch B16.9 requires verification of the...

    Forged Crosses and ASME B31.3

Hi, We've been asked to forge some crosses for a customer and they've also requested design calculations in line with ASME B31.3. B31.3 makes passing reference to crosses, however it's not explicitly stated whether the branch reinforcement calculations can be applied to a cross. Is it simply a...

    ASME B31.3 Chapter IX Elbows

31KT: We didn't go down the FEA route, the project has been put on hold by the client. I'm not sure what the final outcome is likely to be at this stage.

    ASME B31.3 Chapter IX Elbows

I think I can get behind that interpretation! Next job is to persuade the customer... It certainly makes 'sense' to me, but as I've only 6 months under my belt working with these codes I'm trying to be quite cautious about applying my version of sense to the code's intentions. Thanks for the...

    ASME B31.3 Chapter IX Elbows

I was uncomfortable relying on a) as it's not entirely clear what constitutes 'extensive experience', and the extents of 'similar' are not exactly defined either! As a manufacturer we don't always know the service conditions, or whether reality matches the design spec we are given, I feel it...

    ASME B31.3 Chapter IX Elbows

Thanks for the reply. We don't work from a catalogue basis, we manufacture to order to customer requirements. Some customers just order 'off the shelf' components to ASME B16.9 or MSS-SP-75 spec, others provide data sheets for the pipeline and require calculations to be provided showing that...

    ASME B31.3 Chapter IX Elbows

Because we are the fitting manufacturer... Our manufacturing and design process is based on the requirements of ASME B16.9, which does not give specific pressure-temperature ratings. Rather, it is based on the idea that the fitting will be stronger than the attached pipe. The rating of the pipe...

    ASME B31.3 Chapter IX Elbows

Can anyone offer some guidance here, I seem to be stuck in a loop following paragraphs around. We intend to use an ASME B16.9 Elbow for a project being designed to B31.3 Ch IX (high pressure piping). Design pressure is 915 Barg. I'm currently stepping through the Code like this: K303 -...

    Long Sweep fittings

There doesn't seem to be any specific relationship between OD and bend radius, but everyone seems to use the same sizes. One firm that trades them lists the various dimensions on their wesbite, but we manufacture them for various people all pretty much to the same spec. It's very strange in an...

    Long Sweep fittings

To add: I think you're probably on the right tracks with 6A, our customers don't always tell us what the fittings are for, but generally long sweep fittings have quite a bit of meat on the bone to cope with erosion and what not. We also do double-backed fittings for similar situations.

    Long Sweep fittings

That's the consensus here, too. Would love to know the origin though as it's bugging me!

    Long Sweep fittings

I've had a look through API 6A but can't see anything in there that details sizes/bend radii etc for fittings :(

    Long Sweep fittings

Does anyone know the origin of Long Sweep fittings? I've asked around my company and no one seems to know where they originate from. Long Radius, Short Radius, 3D etc. are all defined somewhere or other (B16.9, MSS-SP75 etc) in terms of dimensions and bend radius and what not. There seems to be...

    ASME B16.9:2018 Proof Burst Test

Hi, first post here but been reading the forums for quite a while. I've recently taken on my first design engineer role with a firm that manufactures forged fittings, primarily to B16.9. I've been investigating our current proof burst tests (some dating back to the 1980s) and comparing to the...
