    wind load on horizontal vessel

@r6155 goodness!!! I'm designing vessel of 96"Od and ur saying it's not 96". 96" equals 8ft.. the wind dia given there is 8*1.2 (1.2 is the wind load multiplier) which then gives 9.6ft. this is the wind diameter which is used in calculation of wind load. Wind dia is not used for calculation of...

@BJI thank you for the reply

    wind load on horizontal vessel

@r6155 Please with due respect first read the questions properly then only answer. @saplanti i am doing hand calculations and just compared it with that of Pv elite. My calculations matched in vertical vessel but in horizontal i got stuck in wind area calculations. its not that i didnt search...

    wind load on horizontal vessel

@RaymondN thank u so much.. it cleared my confusion

    wind load on horizontal vessel

@jay im sorry but maybe i didnt get you. wind height is the height from bottom of saddle to centre of vessel. its not possible to make it zero

    wind load on horizontal vessel

@r6155 The snapshot that i have shown is from the report of pv elite. The ans for the second row matches my answer ( seam to seam distance is 20ft and wind dia being 9.6ft. multipying them and converting into inch generates the same ans. but the problem is for the first and last row.. what...

    wind load on horizontal vessel

@jay if wind height was involved then wind area would have been same for all. but its not that in this case.

    wind load on horizontal vessel

I have some confusion in how Pv ELITe calculates the wind area.. on vertical vessels it was quite understandable as it multiplies the height of element and the effective wind diameter. But for the horizontal vessel,i followed the procedure given in the Moss but the result didnt match for the...

    Vortex shedding critical velocity.HELP!!

How is the new critical velocity calculated after the term in the square root is found negative. As far as i know, normally the second critical velocity is taken as 6.25 times the first one. But here the result is different. Can anybody guide me through this...

    Manway Spring Assists

Does anyone here know any reference that shows the required dimension for domed manways?? PIP only has 3 types of connections :(

Centre to centre distance between two nozzles lying on a blind

Can anyone please tell me where shall I find the requirement for the minimum centre to centre distance between two nozzles lying on a blind? I have a blind flange of 24" Raised Face. Above this blind, there are three nozzles: two of 2" size and one of 4" size. While running this on pv elite, the...

    Wind code

I got the same ans upto the shear force calculation but couldn't understand how the moment is being calculated. For the base does it sum up the force in centre of each individual element to its base?? does the vortex shedding load gets added to the normal load and then only the moment is calculated?

    Wind code

    Anybody???

    Wind code

How does pv elite calculates the wind moment for vortex shedding+ operating case?? Im not being able to get the ans present there. if anybody is familiar with the process then please do reply.
