ASME B31.3 2020 Impact Test Requirement Changes

Hi TGS4. Thanks for giving me a place to start looking! I don't have access to B31T but will try and get a copy. Do you know if there is a way to find the 'basis' for the requirements. I.e. if B31.3 now aligns with B31T, why are the requirements different in the first place? Thanks again

ASME B31.3 2020 Impact Test Requirement Changes

Hi all, Does anyone know the reason for the impact test requirement changes in 2020? Specifically the minimum temperature requiring impact testing changing from -29C to -18C? I can't find any commentary. I expect it to be based on some material science discoveries? Thanks in advance, Tiz

    API RP 1102 Application

Hi LittleInch, Thankyou for your helpful response. The pipeline was built decades ago, but we do not have the documentation to determine what the existing road crossings were designed to. The pipeline was designed to AS 2885, which suggests the use of API RP 1102 for road or rail crossings...

    API RP 1102 Application

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knew the reason that API RP 1102 S1.2 states that: "This practice should not be applied retroactively." I want to use the Practice for an existing pipeline that needs to be crossed away from a designed crossing. To me this is retroactive application insofar as...

ASME B31.3 Flexibility analysis - Operating Conditions

The system operates at 500 psi and has an upset condition of 1000 psi, so it still "operates" at 1000 psi, so this is the number to use in the analysis. Design Temperature = MAX(500,1000)

    ASME Table Electronic Format

My only argument would be that it would likely take a similar amount of work to publish the standards as both PDF and tables, and that it provides much greater value to ASME Standards Subscribers. I can't think of a good reason to keep this data locked down, but maybe there are forces at play...

    ASME Table Electronic Format

Thanks guys, I was afraid that might be the answer. Is there some way to suggest to the committee to provide such tables in future revisions? Or am I dreaming...

    ASME Table Electronic Format

Hi all, Does anyone know of any way to get Tables from ASME Codes in electronic format, like a spreadsheet or database? I am currently trying to make a spreadsheet for flange calculations, but I cannot find an efficient way to extract dimensional data from B16.5. Thanks in advance, Tiz
