HDD Water Mains - Should Designer Specify Joint Restraints?

@coloeng - For whatever reason fusible PVC is the red headed step child of the pipe laying world here. I think there was a bogus article years ago about fusible splitting for 100's of feet somewheres in Florida and my General Manager has never wanted to use it. And you are correct, we deal...

HDD Water Mains - Should Designer Specify Joint Restraints?

@jgailla, We have trouble with service saddles leaking on HDPE pipe.

HDD Water Mains - Should Designer Specify Joint Restraints?

I'm the engineer for a local water utility company in Louisiana. When we perform waterline replacements/installations, many times we are running a line in a heavily populated area, so we have to HDD the waterline to avoid conflicts. We run C-900 everywheres now. For any called out bore, we...

System Curve for Booster Station Pump Selection

@bimr We may replace in kind, we were just looking at a few different scenarios for the future and thought that having pumps with additional capabilities might be better than the existing pumps. That's why my system curves vary so much. We looked at different scenarios that we haven't really...

System Curve for Booster Station Pump Selection

@Little Inch, thank you for your response. For low flow events on a normal basis, its not really practical to say we will only flow water through the 10". The amount of manpower it would take to manipulate valves along the 32,000 linear feet of waterlines to the downstream tank is not...

System Curve for Booster Station Pump Selection

I am trying to develop system curves for a booster station that got destroyed during Hurricane Ida. We need new pumps as the old pumps were inundated with salt water and received some wind damage. I've read some previous posts that were very helpful about developing a system curve for a booster...

Leak in Raw Water Reservoir for Potable Water Treatment Plant

All very good information. Thank you all. I'll be discussing with our General Manager and will update.

Leak in Raw Water Reservoir for Potable Water Treatment Plant

@LittleInch lowering the water level that low for an extended period of time will cause algae issues in the reservoir. We can lower the reservoir to low level when necessary but it should not be done for extended periods.

Leak in Raw Water Reservoir for Potable Water Treatment Plant

@ Ron, This is a 350'x 500' pond with a layer of gunnite around the perimeter and bottom of the pond. @JedClampett, the problem with a liner is the gunnite surface is very unlevel and I think you'd have issues trying to get the liner to adhere to the surface. I may still try to reach out to...

Leak in Raw Water Reservoir for Potable Water Treatment Plant

I am an engineer for a local water system in south Louisiana. We have a raw water reservoir that was constructed out of gunnite. It was constructed about 40 years ago. We did some testing recently to determine our low level draw down of the reservoir and during that test we noticed quite a...

    Uni-Flange Concerns

I am currently working on a project where we are replacing some old piping and valves inside of one of our booster stations. The lengths of the spool pieces that need to be installed will need to be field-verified prior to installing. Because of this I called for FL x PE pipe so the Contractor...

    Pipe Penetration Through Concrete Slab

Working on a project where we are pulling our altitude valve and bypass line out of an underground pit at one of our elevated storage tank sites. We are relocating into an above ground building for better access. Building will be situated on a slab on grade. We will have a pipe penetration...
