We are looking to raise throughput and I am evaluating the relief valves on the process unit to ensure we are adequately protected. One of the items I was reviewing was the steam production from a Steam Drum. The nameplate shows a steam production rate of 20,842 lb/hr. The relief valves on...
Thank you all for the technical input on this subject. Reasoning for my question is because ASME Section VIII has Code expemptions for PV's that are an integral part of a pump or recip compr.
Are Reciprocating Compressor Dampener Bottles exempt from ASME and API 510 requirements? Or are they considered pressure vessels and required Code stamping?
Hello,
ASME Committee does not include specific classes of vessels in ASME Section VIII div. 1. Per introduction U-1 Scope (c)(2)(-c) pressure containers which are integral parts or components of rotating or recip. mech. devices. ASME does consider pressure vessels as containers.

Good morning,
We are currently adding a new nozzle to our steam generator, to accomadate for a additional safety valve. The nozzle is of similar size/type to an existing nozzle on the boiler. The nozzle is considered a repair per NBIC, and it does not require any reinforcement and strength...
Hello,
I have a Steam Generator with a heating surface greater than 500sq.ft. ASME Sect. 1 Code requires two safety valves for over pressure protection. Currently the boiler only has one safety for full relieving capacity, however I need to get this boiler in compliance with the Code. So I plan...
