Hot salt Spray will give you an indication of potential corrosion problems but it is not a definitive test. Often Hot Water Testing is used to check the adhesion of the coating to the substrate and this will help tell you if the system you have applied will perform in the field.
You will not...
Kilavuz,
Is corrosion of rebars a big problem in Turkey. If it is then you should look at combating corrosion at the construction stage (epoxy coated bar, cement quality etc).
Regards
Depending on the end use and the preparation prior to coating an epoxy powder coating should be ok. They are tough, offer corrosion protection and come in all colours. Most industrial coaters will be able to paint the object.
Once the coating is damaged there will be a startpoint for corrosion on the black bar. However, I do not believe that the rate of corrosion is in any way accelerated.
Corrosion testing of epoxy coated bars (as found in ASTM 775)includes cathodic disbondment tests which will highlight...
Hariharan,
The CRSI (Concrete REinforcing Steel Institute) in the US has writen a report on the 'performance of epoxy coated rebar, galvanized rebar, and plain rebar with calcium nitrite in a marine environment'.
They probably will have more information so I suggest you contact them. The...
Hariharan, glad that the information was interesting. To try and answer your questions - In the Middle East we are subject to a combination of heat, hummidity and Saline environments which combine to form an ideal mix for generating corrosion on the rebar. In addition, the quality of concrete...
Interested in your discussion as I live in the Middle East which is subject to heavy rebar corrosion problems. So far the best solution is epoxy coated rebars as they have a proven track record in many environments and structures. Few results are poor (small compared to the number of structures...
