Turbine map corrected mass flow ?

Hi, Can someone explain to me what are these 3 different way of calculating Mred for turbine maps ? Top group is the normal formula, the one i use usually Middle circled in red is new one i came across, what is "s" before bar ? And why not just use sqrt instead of K^0.5 ? And bottom one...

    Torsional vibration book

Hello, Can anyone share PDF version of the 5 volumes of Ker Wilsons books on torsional vibration ? Not that i dont want to buy them, but i simply cant find them new, used or pdf for sale. Libraries that have them will not share access unless im a student, which i am not. Thank you

    Bolted flange/ friction / torque

Lets say i have a bolted flange type of drive, operating solely on the friction between the 2 faces. Keeping things simple, at equal bolt preload , will more bolt equal more torque to be transfered ???

    Turbocharger Balancing

How do they exactly clock the turbocharger shaft to grind exactly where its needed on these machines ??? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6CGnRZv620 I believe the magnetic sensor at front measure speed and phase. But then they remove the sensor of the way and turn the shaft to grind...

    Engine cooling

Howdy, Can someone help me understand the relationship between cooling flow rate and radiator sizing ? For a given engine, if cooling isnt sufficient, you can : Increase flow rate, which increase energy removal rate but delta T across radiator will stay the same ? Increasing radiator area...

Turbo size, pressure and tq/hp figures ?

Often enough, when you use a bigger turbocharger on a given engine, all things being equal ( same pressure / hardware etc... ) you find that the engine will make more power with the bigger turbocharger at the same boost ? Is the higher compressor efficiency and lower EMP the only 2 factors...

Two stroke motor / thermal barrier coatings

Hi, What would be the effect of thermal barrier coating on the combustion chamber ( piston face and head ) on a 2 stroke ? Some say it will cause detonation, i dont see why ? Higher end of compression temp maybe but this would mean more pressure and also faster burn rate so that you could...

WRC cars, locked center diff, handbrake turns ?

Well maybe not actual ones then , i meant the ones about 2014/2018 about. They had no center diff at this time.

WRC cars, locked center diff, handbrake turns ?

Hello, I know for a fact that actual WRC cars is no center diff, it is locked between front and rear axle. What happens when they use the E brake for a tight turn ? Is the driveline elasticity enough to lock the rear wheels and not the front at the same time, just long enough to break rear...

Lean condition = Idle hang, why, the scientific reasoning ?

Hello, Why does usually a lean idle causes the rpm to drop very slowly when you shut the throttle ? Rather than very quickly when it is too rich ? Is it because it burns hotter and 100%of the fuel is burned ? Thanks

Steering wheel twitchy on bumps / racecar

Ciba, sadly tjis isnt my video but i could probably film my car next time i go to the track. Can you explain how caster reduces the Maximum Fy ???

Steering wheel twitchy on bumps / racecar

Hi What geometry problem causes the steering wheel to twich when passing small bumps / road defects like on this video : https://youtu.be/X1i90PivtaU Around 0:20 you can see it going in the turn Excessive scurb radius ?

    Racing turbocharger design

This is an interesting remark about accessibility i hadnt tought of that. But does the volute position change a thing on efficiency ? Usually volute curve up ( toward the compressor inlet ) and here it curves down, maybe this have an effect since air may exit the compressor with a up or...

    Racing turbocharger design

Hello, What is the reason engineers made the compressor housing upside down on this turbocharger ? It looks like the backplate became the compressor cover Someone on the original post said this was to raise the isentropic efficiency beyond .75 , but what is the technical reason ? Better...

    Shock absorber mounting position

Hi, This week i worked on a golf 4 4motion and noticed something quite unusual. The shock is mounted as in this picture, this will reduce the motion ratio ( shock moves less than wheel ) What is the reason behind this extreme angle ? Packaging is the only thing i can think of but could...

Piston to wall clearance, during operation.

Hello, On car engines it is common practice to run about 0.05mm clearance betwern piston and cylinder. But what does this clearance become when at operatimg temps, like full load ??? Some person says that the pistons becomes a slight press fit but i dont believe it. Thanks

AFR vs EGT ( SI vs CI )

Hello, can someone explain me why : More fuel results in lower EGT in a SI engine More fuel results in higher EGT in a CI engine ? I belive, that SI engines, past some point too rich will cause the unburned fuel to evaporate and carry heat away thus lowering combustion temps and EGTs correct...
