Sticksandtriangles,
Yes that could also work! The soil spring feature in ETABS uses the user defined stiffness property in pci (lb / in3 = lb/in / in2) which is essentially an area stiffness (the amount of force for one square inch to deflect one inch).
This stiffness in provided by the Geotech...
If using ETABS or SAP2000, you can define a link as a "GAP" Element.
If you define the Gap as 0", then it will function as a compression only link.
Or you could define a non-linear link, with a really high stiffness in compression, but a pretty low stiffness in tension (don't make the numbers...
Hi all,
Struggling conceptually with understanding this issue. So I have a few questions.
See attached document and images for the background.
1. Where does the V_parallel = 2V_perpendicular provision from ACI 318-19 Section 17.7.2.1c come from?
Even in the commentary, the code merely states...
Both P-δ and P-Δ.
If you assume your frame is nonsway, then there will be no P-Δ effect (6.6.4.5 accounts for P-δ effect. Member deflection as it approaches buckling), yet you're still required to perform the upper limit check.
Therefore P-δ must be included in addition to P-Δ for frames that...
Member N1 N2 shouldn't have a release at its N1 end if you're transferring bending into it from your PL beam element. Just remove its end release to no releases at its bottom end.
I'd expect it to behave something like this...
Not so sure about cold form taking this though. I would also say...
Hi Bezujov,
I was going to post a question on this exact thing! So I will share what I know so far, but looking for other's help.
You can define a material's nonlinear properties by clicking SEE ADVANCED OPTIONS under Material Define:
When defining your shell, you need to define the material...
