the top surface is a tensioned surface between the arcs and the lower part is a curved downward dome . I don't have a parameter for the curved part. (other than the radius of the projected curves (the two arcs at 60°). But I will have a smooth transition between these two. (a fitting curve here)...
Sorry I know its disrespectful to ask a question and be silent. I apologize but I didn't know how to respond.
1. The top level of my so called "dome" and the half circle are at the same elevation so if i try to cut the sphere with the curve (beams) all of the top surface will be removed (for...
go to your original model folder and find a file with an extension name of $et and open it. Search "LOAD CASES" and start from $ LOAD CASES up to the end of $ LOAD COMBINATIONS (not the start but the end of load combination) paste it (overwrite) it to your newer $et file. In case you make...
Yes, I couldn't do that for the same reason you said. The next question will be how to create that curved surface( the part to be removed) as it is, in which I don't know how to do that. Even after that I don't think I could have all the meshes have a node at the curved edge in which I have a...
No its not. Originally, those three circles were ellipses. (the major and minor radius of the ellipse are nearly identical that's why I wanted to simplify). I'm a Structural Engineer and this shape is given to us from the Architects. Those three Ellipses represent a support structure (beam) and...
I don't know if this belongs here but,
I want to create a shell structure created by three half circles vertically rotated at 60°. (see attached image). So, is there any easy way/tool to create this meshed shell? (I will use it elsewhere for complete structural analysis.) So far I have tried...
This might be silly but, me and my friend have different understandings. Is simply supported two slab
a. discontinuous at all four edges only or
b. if the shorter direction is simply supported and longer direction continuous, the panel is classified still as simply supported
we're using...
We have a two basement building to be constructed near a G+7 building (total height = 24m. Due to the slope of the ground, we are to excavate 11m near this building. Initially we were going to provide shoring but we chose to remove 1 basement near the existing building (not as a whole but near...
Our original design shows a skylight on top of 3m by 3m opening formed out of a 20cm RC Slab. At the edges of this opening we provided 60cm RC parapet to bury bolts for receiving plates with RHS Post. The client has requested us to change the skylight to glass walkway excluding the parapet. (Has...
I have a Contractor submitted drawing of hollow concrete slab with PVC pipes for approval. Sorry this is not common in our country, but, is the design the same as Hollow Concrete Block or the PVC pipe has a unique function? Does it act like composite structure? Also any good reference?
@SWComposites the software is not showing the maximum value of torsional long. reinf. out of all the the load combinations and is only showing me at the maximum flexural reinforcement thats why. (But in the total longitudinal rebar it takes the maximum).
@rapt
do you mean i don't need the shear...
Why is the total longitudinal reinf. of a beam reported by Etabs not equivalent to
the summation of longitudinal reinf. due to shear + torsion + flexure
Individually it gave me
Flexure = 7362mm²
Shear = 6580mm² and
Torsion = 215mm²
----Total = 14157mm²
but a Total of 14862mm² (off by 705mm²)...
What is the general thing to do incase two modes are too close to each other? Eurocode 8 requires two modes (both translational and torsional modes) to have at least 10% of the higher period gap.
As stated on (Eurocode 4.3.4) seismic displacements from linear analysis should be multiplied with displacement amplification factor equal to q (behaviour factor). So my question is, do we need to manually amplify the storey drift reported by etabs with the behaviour factor or is it...
@bugbus I tried to model the cross section of the pipe as a beam element but I couldn't apply the parabolic load. Do I just write the equation of the function on beam attributes? what parameters does the function use or can you redirect me to some good tutorial.
I have an RC Pipe and I want to apply parabolic loads to its base and see its response. So far I have been told to approximate it with equivalent trapezoidal loads. My problem is the slope of the curve changes rapidly(narrow curve)that I would need too many approximations. So, is there any FEA...
@HTURKAK Sorry for the late reply, Thank you for you reply it was helpful. I included the lateral filter (sand+gravel) load on the wall. I then took the full depth of Sand filter for maximum water pressure calculation (both for back-wash and normal filtration) on the Sand filter wall. That...
