Thanks for your input. Yes, the fat tank is the furthest tank away - the start of the condensate return.
This certainly was an unintended consequence of the modifications made...
Latexman- I have confirmed that we do not have any possibility for chlorides in our fatty waste. Sending the hose out for inspection analysis could prove a good idea anyways. The flex line failed at such a catastrophic level that it actually looked like it turned itself inside out.
LittleInch-...
LittleInch- There is maybe a foot between the ON/OFF valve and the inlet to the tank. That small section is not steam traced. I checked the layout and there is actually a steam trap on the dead leg prior to the ON/OFF valve. Not shown in the diagram.
Hacksaw/Pierreick- The corrugated line is 1...
LittleInch-
The PRV is a pressure relief valve.
Yes- The steam line, coming from the steam header, that leads to the on/off valve is a dead leg. The steam header is ~12' off the ground. The line with the on/off valve that enters into the side of the tank is ~8' off the ground. This section is...
Hi,
We have a ~30,000 gal tank that we use to hold fatty waste. In order to avoid fat solidification in the tank, we apply steam through an internal heating coil. The steam is regulated via an on/off discrete block valve controlled by the DCS. When the temp reaches the high end of the range the...
Hi,
What sort of things would one look at if tasked with identifying nitrogen rate losses in a series of storage tanks. Both Atmospheric (0-0.5PSIG) & low-pressure tanks (0.5-15 PSIG)?
Factors that I can think of:
- Intentional designed releases via conservation vent
- Leaking...
Update: I spoke with our plant manager. Manages over 200 employees at our site... He highly recommended an MBA or something similar if striving for reaching higher positions such as the one he holds. I think my conclusion from this thread and others I've talked with is that whether you should...
CWB1- That's interesting. I wonder if that trend is changing... I've only been in the industry now for 3 years post college and I've seen two people achieve MBA and move up the ladder to higher positions as a result. Maybe it is different for chemical engineers working at chemical plants...
Latexman- No one appreciates when someone says a random comment that the receiving party is not meant to understand, then when asked the person just says "I figured it would be over your head". That usually implies you having a feeling of intellectual superiority, there is a generational gap on...
IRstuff- I'm trying to understand why you're so bitter and referring to me, who you know nothing about, as a psychopath. I don't appreciate that. Did a manager really hurt your feelings in the past? There is a proper way to communicate with other adults. You simply could state your opinion about...
Latexman- What are you implying? Do you mean to pick on me then due to potential age difference? Is that not against the code of conduct within these forums? If it's some kind of inside joke, or another known user to these forums, please clarify.
IRStuff- See, now you actually answered my...
SwinnyGG- How I would like my career to look is dependent on knowing how those different pathways would look with an MBA vs without an MBA, that was the whole point of asking the question... Your second comment: That is just the experience of my one co-worker, not my own belief or answer... I...
IRstuff- What do you want your career to look like it too vague of an answer. I'm specifically asking about engineers with an MBA and whether its useful or worth the time investment and energy. What are the pros/cons? Based on that discussion I can decide for myself how I would like my career to...
What are your thoughts/feelings about CHEs going for an MBA. Should the engineer get experience through working for some amount of time prior to starting an MBA? Should the MBA be done concurrent with working a full time job? What are the Pros and Cons for a CH E specifically getting an MBA? Is...
Update:
My question was silly. The total dynamic head I calculated should have been calculated in a way which included the S.G in the first place. I.E when converting from psi to head for each component, I should have used S.G which I did not do for some of the suction head terms. I've...
All,
Does the total dynamic head get divided by the SG prior to plotting onto the pump curve for a fluid that is not water?
If I remember correctly, pump curves are drawn based of the assumption of water...
George,
There actually is a temp transmitter on the bottom of the reactor (not shown in the drawing). That temp transmitter controls whether HEAT, OFF, or COOL is activated for both HX A and B. The three way valve downstream of HX A is not involved in the logic. If they want to skip HX B, they...
