Hi everyone,
Could you pls share your thoughts about the following clause in Australian standard (I guess that should be same with other codes) AS1940-2017 Cl.5.8.4
“ Where the aggregate capacity of the tanks in any compound exceeds 10 000 m3, intermediate bunds of at least half of the average...
Thanks @LittleInch.
I need to seal the penetration as it is a bund. So, in terms of the actual repair should I:
use a bigger pipe around the current one
then patch the blocks with grout and
then seal any gap between the pipe and wall.
Is that what you mean?
Cheers
Hi Everyone,
I need to repair some pipe penetration (fuel) on a concrete block wall. My understanding is that I need to leave some gap between the pipe and the wall to allow for the pipe movements. How can I patch around existing penetration in order to leave a gap around the pipe? Is there any...
Everyone,
It's been a while since my last post on this thread, but I finally have some updates.
I went there to trial some epoxy based product to repair cracks, but unfortunately the issue with the wall seems more severe. While I worked on some larger cracks I found that blocks are empty and...
It does retaining water but some joints leaking at the base. Humidity is high there so I guess promotes corrosion.
The slab is cracked in the location. See below. The crack on the 1st pic is leading to the slab joint on the 2nd pic
Everyone,
Thanks for your input and apologies for the delay.
You are right. My apologies for the confusion.
Could you pls elaborate that as I’m not familiar with the process?
Why do you think that? If in fact the joints were constructed incorrectly (caps, joint width, no water stop) wouldn’t...
Hi all,
I was inspecting a bund wall and I found 3 cracks on the expansion joints (see pics). The bund has concrete floor and walls and is just 10 yrs old. The drawings indicate that expansion joints has metal waterstop but in two occasions where sealant is coming off I can't see it. In 30% of...
Hi everyone,
Thanks for your response and apologies for my delay.
- The height averages at 1.2m.
Unfortunately, the bund is that old that there is no original drawings. I'd assume there is some sort of footing under it, but I have not indication so far (haven't dig it as yet).
My first...
The initial fill has to be very slow (flowrate <1m/s), until the rood is fully afloat. We usually start by filling another tank and then slow "cracking" the valve on the tank that will be put back in service. However, there are risk involved as the space in the tank between the product and the...
Everyone,
I came across a bund wall made of Besser (Cinder) blocks. Now, as far as I'm aware these blocks are porous or much more permeable than poured concrete and the blocks do not look filled (I think is recommended). Moreover, I don't see any sealant coating or anything been put on the...
BJI, thanks for your clarification.
May I ask how did you find this out? I couldn't find that information and that's why I was confused.
Thanks for your response!
Great conversation!
LittleInch, thank you for your time, sharing your knowledge and experience in the field!
It’s great to have reachable people with your knowledge/experience.
First time using a forum for professional questions but I’ll definitely stay in touch here!
The reason I’m getting confused is because the standard indicates an angle of 26.5 deg
Whereas the Torricelli law indicates an angle of 45 degrees
Which I’d assume that the standard is based on.
I think tho your thought process is correct and the design is based on the likelihood of the...
Thank you!
I'm referring to the AS 1940-2017 (but even very old versions include that Crest Locus requirement) and specifically cl. 5.8.3 (h). Haven't checked the API 650 before to be honest but I'll have a look.
BTW, what is the difference between the containment and spill bund?
I understand...
Hi guys,
My first post here from Down Under.
So, I've started working in petroleum industry and reading a lot about secondary containment/bunding. One of the things confusing me at the moment is about the crest locus requirement (cl. 5.8.3 (h)) saying:
"The location of a bund relative to the...
