Member stability check as per Canadian Steel code design CSA S16:2019

thank you, i have the same understanding or feeling. but i can't find direct clause to support this. wondering if you notice any this kinds of word in any design guide or commentary? Thanks

Member stability check as per Canadian Steel code design CSA S16:2019

Check AISC360-18 C1.1 for Direct analysis method for design. check CSA S16:19 annex o for direct analysis method. you may argue that this doesn't exact word, for my understanding, this advanced analysis method is the same thing or idea as the direct analysis method in AISC360

Member stability check as per Canadian Steel code design CSA S16:2019

Hello All, thank you for all the discussion above, the notional load is required as per structure stability analysis not required by member stability. for Canadian code, you have to consider notional load if you want to avoid direct analysis. For US code, if your structure is rigid enough...

Member stability check as per Canadian Steel code design CSA S16:2019

Thank you for the information. i did check the commentary, i should include this member stability load as per my understanding of the code, but i asked some engineers, the answer is they didn't consider this load when using Canadian code before....

Member stability check as per Canadian Steel code design CSA S16:2019

Hello All, I am designing a building with Canadian steel design code CSA S16:2019. This building's analysis is following Simplified stability analysis method as per clause 8.4.3 by use of RISA 3D. For all the members designed by the software, I am wondering if i still need do member stability...

internal braces of truss frame and roof braces locations

Hi Cold, could you explain more how to remove eccentricity in the top chord by adding strut or brace at the ridge? do you mean the top chord is folded column, the biggest offset happened at the ridge ? if there is no panel point at the end wall columns, how can we provide stability support at...

internal braces of truss frame and roof braces locations

Hi JLNJ, yes, the truss internal braces is a bit wired. that's why i am struggling to use it. for the folded top chord, i think if i am using CJP at the ridge joint, even it's not a triangle , the truss is still keeping stability.

Concrete-Filled Pipe Pile(composite Pile) Testing Method

Hi LittleWheels, Thank you a lot for sharing. i have a few questions to your explanation, wondering could you help to share more details? What does "rock socket and pile plug do not have concrete continuously" mean? the pipe pile will be driven first, and then soil plug will be removed. do you...

Concrete-Filled Pipe Pile(composite Pile) Testing Method

Hello All, I am preparing for a test method spec for Concrete-filled Pipe Pile, the pipe pile will be driven to the top level of rock firstly, and then drill soil into the rock 3m further and fill the reinforced concrete. The pipe pile need sharing resistant load with reinforced concrete core...

Rock socketed section of Pipe pile installation method

Hi HTURRAK, Thank you so much for the further explanations, The project just started, actually i am looking for possibilities for the solutions and curious design basis/reference for possibilities. you gave me a very clear and detail advice absolutely. Amazing, thank you for your time again...

Rock socketed section of Pipe pile installation method

Hi SlidruleEra, Thank you for the sharing, and appreciate a lot. I used to understand in this way, but there are some points still can not convince me. 1. 22mm thickness wall is suggested in the report, it seems too thick to a dilled pile caisson shell only.i think they should call this...

Rotation ability for shear end plate connection

Good morning human909 and all , I consult a few engineers within my team these days, the common agreement is adding knee won't help a lot to release my concern but make assumption more complicated. same as yours.. the without knee brace should be the proper solution here, i will consider some...

Rotation ability for shear end plate connection

Good morning All, I am wondering if anyone has opinion or preference for the without brace option and braced option? at the same time, i have another question, for the 10m column , i can rotate it 90 degree, in this way the girder will connect to column flange directly, Does it will help...
