    Resistance of 12ga brace wire

We went through this a few months ago. Like many niches in our industry, the more you dive down the rabbit hole the more inconsistency and lack of information you find. We’re in the Pacific NW and asked our clients to send us the docs for the strength of the wire they were purchasing. About 4 of...

Design and construction of 126m tall flagpole Design parameters

Were you, or has anyone, found a copy of the FP 1001-13? I inquired with NAAMM and just received an email stating that 2007 is the most recently published version.

Design and construction of 126m tall flagpole Design parameters

This is interesting. I found this discussion because I was searching for FP 1001-18. The 2021 IBC references FP 1001-18 (Ch. 35). I thought maybe it was a typo since the newest version on NAAMM's site is 1000-07. The 2024 IBC also lists 1001-18. I am curious if the current wind speed should be...

    Seismic Overstrength design

As I see it, the exception of 1613.1 forwards you to 2308. 2308.2.1 limits the designer to one story, in SDC D. So that doesn't help in my search for a codified statement. Now I am wondering if using an anchor that is a tested assembly, anchor calculations are not required thus Ch. 17 isn't...

    Seismic Overstrength design

Are you suggesting that overstrength is not required because anchor calculations are not required due to it being a tested product?

    Seismic Overstrength design

driftLimiter thanks for this info. JoshPlumPE, thanks for the graphic. For our firm’s discussion, I am narrowing the scope to light-framed construction to meet the exemptions to avoid using overstrength for the collectors and focusing on the topic of overstrength and the anchor that attaches...

    Seismic Overstrength design

This has been a topic of discussion in our office as well. We work primarily in SDC D, on the West Coast, so my thoughts are applicable to seismic regions where cracked concrete design is required. This discussion is also specific to wood-framed structures with flexible diaphragms. My take on...

    mezzanine "point load" capacity

I sencond what MotorCity says. A plywood floor over 2x's spaced at 16" o/c will yeild a far different capacity than a concrete metal deck over steel supports.

    ACT Ceiling for Hospital, Ip=1.5?

If Ie=1.5 then Ip=1.5. We generally, reduce the bracing spacing so that a 12 ga wire can still be used along with the same anchors. Another option, though less favorable by both me & the contractor, is to switch to 10 ga wire but this generally requires more embed for the anchors. I've not back...
