    Plastic Modulus of shear area.

thanks ishvaaag, exactly what i needed.. sadly i'm not good enough in this to understand it.. :) i'll base on that..formula wise i think not a problem, the platic modulus value is decreased by about a half, so seems workable and i'd use same thought to be conservative (decrease value in half).

    Plastic Modulus of shear area.

ishvaaag & BA, understand both of your comments and that is thus far that i found info on.. but i am looking at how to calculate this based on a pipe section where the shear area is 60% of total area acting at the major axis. Can somebody who understands how this work can perhaps give a...

    Plastic Modulus of shear area.

BA,i didn't invent the theory (or did i?).. :) if you refer to british standard BS5950-1:2000, clause 4.2.5.3 bending moment check against high shear, value Sv (plastic modulus of shear area) is required. So how do i calculate this Sv value?

    Plastic Modulus of shear area.

thanx all for your kind replies.. i guess ishvaaag gave the approach i needed to understand better how this thing works, i'll need to read further to understand properly. :) plastic modulus calculation is not the issue as most formulas have been establshied for most normal sections - I beams...

    Plastic Modulus of shear area.

Hi, Is there anybody who would be kind to explain how to calculate the plastic modulus of shear area for a pipe @ circular hollow section? There's only the formula Sv=tD^2/4 but its for rolled section with equal flanges. Please help. Thanks.

    Drive Power to pull trailer

crysta1c1ear, thanks a lot for clearing that out, boy what a mistake.. thanks again. Actually i want to look at the capacity of the engine in "force" perspectives. Basically forward force must exceed force backwards to enable something to move. In my case, trailer weight and friction (rolling...

    Drive Power to pull trailer

ok understood. thanks guys.. now that you mention it, i think the contribution of gradient should be included in the equation to determine what is the pull bar required, am i right? i am currently looking at how to determine the pull bar capacity of a tractor or truck base on engine capacity...

contribution of grade? sorry i don't quite get you.. care to explain more? sorry and thanks

    Drive Power to pull trailer

Thanks guys for the help! Greg Locock: Where did you get the formula? (Just curious) fantastic! trust i can use it in my engineering calculations and such? So from what i can understand, can i say drag force:- drag force,P = T*(ERPM/60*2*pi) / 0.8 (final output in N?) Please anybody clarify...

    Drive Power to pull trailer

Anybody care to assist me in understanding this problem i have? What determines the drive power to pull a certain weight on trailers or wheels? As i know that the weight on the wheels shall subject a certain frictional force and therefore to counter the force you shall need sufficient...

    Correct Tire Pressure

Thanks CR. I guess i need to continue my search to understand this further again. Thanks for your help.

    Correct Tire Pressure

CR, From your response i get the understanding that tyre pressure do in fact increase when loaded, right? So when they say that tyre contact area equals to load on tyre divides by the tyre inflation pressure, how do i determine the tyre inflation pressure? is it manual check using gauge?? or can...

    Correct Tire Pressure

hi guys, i'm looking on an explanation for tire load to ground pressure relation and find this thread really interesting. If somebody care to help ease my wonderings, please do assist to answer the below. lets consider 44psi is the standard pressure and adjust the tyre pressure to that. If i am...

Tyre load pressure / bearing effect

thanks for your reply but could you imagine me being a dummie and explain / elaborate more on even the terms? :)

Tyre load pressure / bearing effect

Guys, Need your help here if possible. I am currently working for a transportation company doing platform trailers or so called heavy haulage. Currently i am studying on the ground pressure effect from tyres and i have been searching the net for some info but can never find a solid one on...
